Grym adamantium forge fight is to specific.
Dislike this boss fight in so many ways , defeating him is to specific. there is no freedom , i just moved to story mode from tactician to do it as it's just doing a puzzle based on luck. Horrible , tbh.

He's vulnerable to bludgeoning damage when on fire.

Get him in the fire and hit him with bludgeoning weapons.

You can drag him to the center and pull the lever.

Also he's rigged to chase the last person to piss him off and you're standing under a giant bludgeoning device

I killed him in one turn on tactician without using the machine. Buff up. Haste bless hex and make sure you get advantage and smack him withc2 or 3 martials especially paladin and he will die first turn I suggest to cast fly. Press the valve for heat him up and beat him to death Enjoy. Put hammers on everyone don't forget 🔨

my game bugged and he never got the debuff that made bludgeoning work, the hammer in the middle would knock him down and do 0 damage, but the lava never triggered the debuff, on 'examine' it said he had the debuff but he still always took 0 damage

Kill it with salami.

Is the fight really that much worse luck-wise on tactician? On the balanced difficulty my first turn I used Karlach to lure him to the anvil in such a way that he was still standing partially standing in the lava, then had her jump off the anvil (eating an opportunity attack ofc), and then had the hammer go down on the anvil. Golem hit for almost half HP in one go, knocked prone. Next turn he gets up, doesn't get to do anything, overheated again since one leg in lava. Bring hammer down again, rinse and repeat. Had to re-apply lava to the stage once or twice I think. Only thing I actually had to "fight" in that fight were the mephits. Except some just flew next to the anvil and got splattered by it as well xD

He's an Adamantium Golem optional boss fight in a side zone, so I don't see why you would complain about needing certain strategies to beat him as though it's a fault of the game.

I beat him the first time around without too much trouble by using blunt damage and luring him into the forge lava to make him vulnerable (you can learn about his weaknesses and such easily by examining him and paying attention to his status). When you combine his vulnerability to bludgeoning damage with the fact he chases whoever attacked him last, you can lure him in circles and beat him to a pulp. Admittedly if you are doing a very novel party composition like four wizards you might struggle to kill him with your spell slots, but for a balanced party it should be reasonable.

I guess from what other people have said you can lure him under the actual hammer of the forge to kill him much more easily, but it's hardly necessary - I didn't think to do that.

It's pretty straightforward, you just need to know the mechanics.

He's pretty much immune to damage unless he has the Superheated status, at which point bludgeoning will do double damage. He becomes Superheated when he's been standing in lava, and it lasts for 2 rounds after he leaves lava. When someone hits him, they gain the Prime Target status and he'll target them. Use this to draw his attention and get him into the lava. The lava will drain after a few rounds, but you can use the valve to release the lava again. Here's a very basic strat:

BEFORE using the lava valve to start the fight, separate your party. Position one or two frontline characters with bludgeoning weapons on the left or right platforms of where he spawns. Place one character near the lava valve(this can be one of your frontliners), one near the hammer level, and finally one character with ranged attacks on the mould box near the crucible.

First round he won't do anything but Awaken. It's free DPS and he's superheated, so go to town. After that, have the character on the mould box draw his attention and get him to run towards the center. If they miss it's no big deal, just keep pounding away with your frontliners, while the lever/mould characters heal and support.

Once he gets near it, have the character near the hammer lever activate it. The character on the mould box will be 100% safe, but poor Grym will probably suffer around 140 points of bludgeoning damage.

And then just repeat.

You get achievement beating grym the normal way anyways, if it really hard 4x paladin or 4x monk should really kite the boss to death. The misfit however might get you one bad turn
So you played on tactician, then met a boss that requires more then just smashing your head into to win, and decided to whinge about it on the forum?

Ok.

It is just a puzzle fight and more irritating than interesting. However, I tend to think the major set piece battle of grymforge is Nere and friends.
ShadowBastard69 Aug 11, 2023 @ 8:28pm
its actually stupidly easy. position one team mate on the lava wheel. position 1 on the hammer lever. put your tank on top of the mould, have tank attack to grab aggro. when he comes at the tank as long as the lava is active he'll get the debuff then u just throw the lever for the hammer. rinse and repeat, should only have to do it twice.

What's specific? Just equip everyone with Mauls and go hammer time. I killed him in two rounds. I could have done it in one round with a single fighter if I had cast more buffs on him. There's no luck involved, you don't even need to use the machine in the center. He goes after the last person who damaged him so that parts not luck either.

Yeah, I beat him without knowing about the forge hammer mechanic working (I assumed it would be disabled) with my monk doing most of the damage through flurry of blows and such.
