Color spray never hits target?
I have a ring that does Color Spray to blind, but when I line it up to hit multiple enemies, it doesn't hit. Only once or twice, and the second time my ally was within range.
They're within the target area, and one time I figured maybe it doesn't affect multiple, so I did it on one target, and still nothing.

Is it bugged, am I misunderstanding it's use, or do I just get abysmal rolls every time I test it?

Haven't tried it in this game but I remember that when I played BG2 I always thought that Color Spray was useless. Maybe I was using it wrong or whatever but as far as I am concerned that spell sucked. Not really relevant to your question but still. 😄

I'm not sure, but it's my experience with the game that most of the impairment options are pretty bad or almost always resisted.

Doesn't it affect "up to 30hp of targets"? So if you try to hit anything above that, it won't work.

But yeah, seems like a spell that becomes useless fast, unless you happen to meet a swarm of low hp enemies or something like that.

It's either useless for anything besides Act 1 trash monsters or you upcast it and try not to hit more than 1 enemy at a time I guess

You gotta get in the habit of actually reading. It says it affects up to a certain amount of HP. So if you try to use it on anything with more HP than that it will automatically fail. It's a pretty garbage spell.
They have to be looking at you as well i think and it has to have eyes, you can't blind someone facing away from you I have noticed good attention to detail really lol

Edit: I noticed 2 lower lvl guys one was facing away abd the other wasn't only the one facing me got blinded that I saw.

it was useful early on but eventually the hp req is too low and the enemy is one hit away from dying anyways by the time you can use it.

do i kill it then and there or do i mess around with a spell that requires an enemy turn to have value? tough decision /s

https://baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Colour+Spray

Description: Blind creatures up to a combined 33 hit points.

Basicly two goblins are usually over this 33 hp. But later on you might blind 2 magma mephits! if they can even be blinded:)

Yeah it's not useful, it is good for gale fodder though lol

Or you can use it on a low HP mob that you couldn't kill off with others, but is also threatening you. I use sleep still at lv5, and I have also used scrolls of color spray to blind those tiny spiders in that one cave. Sometimes you just can't finish off monsters because you low roll the damage, that's when the HP specific CC comes into play.

Edit: I know some of you are like, just cast a damage spell, but if you're also low on HP, and you need to heal, and you aren't sure the attack will connect on high defense monsters or high dex saves, CC is king.

Yeah, it's based on a set amount of HP. I often use the ring that grants it to help finish off boss/high defense enemies with Shadowheart because the advantage from the blindness is more potential damage output from my other characters than she could potentially do with her action in most cases. Comes back for every combat as well without needing to rest, so it's reliable.
