Yeah, this is what I am considering. The dream guardian could just be a mindflayer messing with me. What pisses me off is that stuff can just happen to your character for the sake of the story, but almost everything else that happens in game is based on ability tests/saves. So surely I would have the chance, no matter how small to pass the wisdom saving throw to see through a mindflayer trick... and at the very least I would be made aware my character just had to make a wisdom saving throw.
Kudos to the writers for actually ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with us just like mindflayers do. But I can't help but feel the actual fury and frustration that my character would be feeling. (especially after Astarion calls me a party pooper) >:(
In my first complete run I finished a couple of nights ago, the entire run I didn't use a single illithid speech check and didn't absorb any more worms either. I never fully trusted the guardian, or at least my character didn't. I just said things to appease it and ignored it's constant telling me to eat worms x)
The mental conflict is indeed nice to follow.
Curse this game for having such freedom! ;)
