Stupid question about books...
OK, I collect them and read them, sometimes my character learns something from them and I get some lore about the game, but then do I need to do anything with them?

I've sold multiple copies but always kept one in the camp chest but should I just sell them?

Id read everything (at least open the book). Some will update a quest, some can just give you hints on how to solve a puzzle perhaps (like in the Gauntlet), others just give lore. But otherwise you can sell any book that isnt marked as a quest item (orange outline)

Read the books and scrolls, but don't take them with you, they are not worth your inventory slots.
However there are some books and scrolls you should keep, these are usually marked with colored frame, for example orange. Those can be quest books or special books, you can do something with.
So collect all in inventory, check if they have colored frame, if not, drop them and continue your jorney.

Most books sell for a small sum, so it can be worthwhile to take them to sell, at least in act 1

I was doing the same as you, but as far as I can tell (nearly done with Act 2) the only things books/notes/etc to keep are the ones with the orange outline indicating they are quest items. I've still got one copy of every book in my camp chest, just in case, but I haven't found any uses for them so far.

However, to contrast that, there are quite a number of other items (non-book) which do not have orange quest-borders, but do have uses at various points in the game. So anytime I find a unique looking item, if it doesn't weight a ton, I tote it along with me now.

read every book and then immediately mark as "wares" so you know its read. Some will update your journal, but as far as I know you never need to have the book, only to have read it.

This thread has given me exactly what I thought it would but I wasn't 100% confident, so thank you...
