How to steal the Idol of Sylvanus?

Hey folks, I'm trying to steal the idol of Silvanus, but it always causes a war between druids and tieflings. I tried using the backpack+fog method, but it doesn't seem to work. When I return from the camp, the druids immediately report the loss of the Idol and start the civil war.
Any ideas how to steal it without triggering everyone?
And just to clarify, I'm looking for something that works early-game (before you stop the ritual).

stop the ritual by exposing Khaga first, then you should be good as long as you use something like mage hand to move the idol without getting caught.

Great stealth and lucky rolls. That is how you might be able to steal it. If you get caught they get triggered like some do on these forums when certain subjects come up.

Do it after the issue has been solved, as long as Mol is still alive. Much easier. Sing a song, throw to a mate, deny all knowledge!

It is the literal centerpiece of their holy grove. I presume the Druids, especially the ones close by, are gonna go "Huh, weird, our Idol is gone from where not even the Archdruid is allowed to move it, guess I'm gonna ignore that"

I presume that as long as the Tieflings are there, and the Idol goes missing from it's spot, the Druids will become hostile, simply because they see it missing.

It's similar to pickpocketing, where NPCs will start patroling the area they were in when something was stolen, trying to find who took it, accusing you when they find you.

Get the musical proficiency from Alfira by playing her Lute > play music in front of the huge door leading into the inner cove near the Idol to attract the druids > steal it and run away.

IF you do it right one of the druids will start running once you steal it, but he'll take a lot of time to actually go around. By that time you'll escape easily.

And naturally do it after you deal with Kagha. If you do it before you will cause a war.

easy. take any kind of chest/box or backpack. stand with your entire party right next to the idol. place down the container. use Fog Cloud on yourself. while the fog is blocking everyone their view grab the idol. open inventory and drag the idol into the container. take the container and directly go to camp. there is a youtube video that shows it step by step.


edit forgot to mention if done correctly the civil war wont start and druids will stay in place praying the idol even when its not there anymore

Looks like I'll have to take care of Kagha first. I tried a few more tactics that involved invisibility and mind control of all kinds and It always causes a war between two factions. Quite unfortunate, but I guess it's not that hard to expose her after all. This "solution" also fits well with the personality of the character I'm roleplaying. I'm contemplating to rage-throw polymorphed shadow-druids against the wall or down the pit (rats are so throwable in this game lol), but we'll see how it goes. Thanks, fellas!

There seems to be a possiblity to get Minthara - it's a bit tricky though and involves not-so-obvious steps / one being passively neutral. Details see here - I'm still validating it (takes quite some time ... https://gameplay.tips/guides/baldurs-gate-3-recruiting-both-minthara-and-halsin.html)

I keep getting "not enough space", I defeated the goblins and was hoping to steal it before the tieflings leave and give it to Mol.

After confronting Kagha, I was able to steal the idol. No special tricks are required. Just distract the druids with an illusion or performance, grab the statue and run.

Yes, we did that and all killed all the druids then led the goblins to finish off the tieflings we just finished saving. If you let the druids win the race war you cant though as the grove is magically blocked off
