Laezel - Fighter
Laezel - Fighter

Game is asking me if I want to turn her into Battlemaster or Champion? Without proper explanation..

So what I should choose? That battlemaster table looks overhelming and confusing, zillion information after just 1 lvl up...

Personally I find Battle master much more fun as it gives you more tactical options in the form of maneuvers.

If you feel overwhelmed take champion for now. It has a passive bonus to crit chance.

You can respec later if you want.

No no, no respec, that doesnt belong to any game...

Ok, crit chance party then.

It all depends on what you find fun but I think that it's safe to say that Battle master is generally seen as the superior spec. Maneuvers are helpful tools in a fight. Champion is just... I'm not sure really. As a poster said before me they get a bonus to crit which is good but how often will that happen? Maneuvers you control.

If your main protagonist is a battlemaster with a shield, pure damage dealer champion frog is the perfect match. If you don't have a battleamster, frog battlemaster is arguably better, because being able to grant your enemies disadvantage on attacks against you via evasive maneuvers makes the battlemaster a great tank (along with feats such as alert and sentinel) and a highly valuable addition to the party.

she gets mystery step at like level 4 or 5... what maneuvers are you talking about?

Battle Master is the way to go. It gives your Fighter varied options and if you are looking for damage you can always find that in the feats that are available.

Battle masters can disarm, goad, trip, counter attack and can even give their attack to give a party member with better damage or positioning another attack.

They also get a second fighting style - all passive - but yes Battlemaster is the superior subclass.

Once she's level 4, you can grant her one of the three soldier sub classes:
-> Battlemaster
-> Eldritch Knight
-> Champion

It actually depends somewhat on your party setup and preferences, but out of the three, the Battlemaster is the most useful one, simply because it turns the Fighter to a less selfish class. A Battlemaster can grant several buffs to your party overall and one of the most useful ones appears to be "Rally" which grants you temporarily 8 extra HP. Useful if your party is outnumbered and if you expect a lot of incoming damage.
All while retaining the original class' fighting abilities, so Lae'Zel is still deadly.

A Champion basically turns up the Fighter to eleven, making that class even more dangerous on the field but also keeps it a selfish class with no buffs and boosts for others. Still very useful as the class can cut through anything without survivability issues like a Barbarian with light armor.

The only class I can't find a real use is the "Eldritch Knight". Sounds cool on paper, as the Fighter now gets access to some spells. However spell power is based on INT - and Lae'Zel doesn't have a particular high INT stat, like most fighters you create from start. Unless you plan a main!fighter with that particular sub class in mind, there's no real reason to pick "Eldritch Knight" over the others, especially if you bring a magical class in your party.

Long story short: Battlemaster is probably the best pick you can do in any given situation with most party setups. If you don't have Karlach for reasons, Champion is also a good pick.

Yeah it isn't overwhelming after a few combat encounters also all those things can be applied through ranged weapons as well.

Champion if you just want to swing, Battlemaster if you want some moves.
I think Battlemaster is better, it only Looks overwelming at first.

I admittedly like Eldritch Knight, here's why:

First: Shield spell. +4 AC on potential hit. It makes Lae'zel a great tank when you can use this reaction and avoid damage.
Second: Bond weapon. You can bind a thrown weapon and make it auto return. This can let Lae'zel use her STR score for ranged attacks, instead of her less impressive DEX score.
Just focus on the buffs and saveless stuff from your mage spellbook and it should be okay.

I think you'd have to respec her to make that subclass good, and since OP doesn't want to do that I don't think I would pick it.
