If you are determined to kill her the best idea is to not go too early (I was lvl 6 after doing the rest of the map). Take the opportunity before the battle to use ritual spells, potions etc and place your characters in good locations. Close the door to her chamber and you might not get the second ranged character as well. If all else fails bring Gale and fireball her and the muts.
Uhm.... How did you do that, if you need to kill her and get the crystal from her that opens the path to those pits you mentioned? Unless I am unaware of getting that door open without her biting the dust.
Most of them are really reliant on their 2h sword, once it's gone they're toothless.
