The Devil may care but i sure didn't
So i am gonna go out on a sturdy limb here and say that DLC is 110% going to happen. Anyone else find the portal room with portals to Athkatla , Neverwinter , Waterdeep , Mephistar , Luskan , Menzoberranzan and also back to Baldur's Gate? If you've got 25k gold to burn and are looking for this room....... go burn it in hell

They don't have to follow everything to the letter, most level 9 spells aren't as world breaking as you're painting them to be.
Wish, Gate, Storm of Vengeance, True Resurrection sound pretty severe.

They had to bid for the licencing to use the BG title though. So it would depend on what that agreement states. They were not the only studio that wanted to produce BG3

Larian bought the licence to create BG3 and they did.
That is it.
So if Mattel wanted expansion now, they would have to pay Larian instead.
Which does not make much sense, does it? :D

Wish can be limited to just 8th level spells, gate can be limited to whatever the devs want it to be, True Resurrection is more or less already in the game via a certain NPC and could be further limited by just not letting the player cast it on everything (it could open up some fun game play ideas though), and Storm of Vengeance can easily be balanced.

Wish almost never go well for the party. A clever DM or Dev will realize that putting a wish spell in game could be interesting. I wish that dragon was dead..... cool you just made an undead dragon instead. I wish i had that castle done you now owe 5 million gold in back taxes that came with it. I wish i could fly done now if only you knew how to land. WISH is not an i win button its more of an oh what have we done spell. Storm of Vengeance is a Con check and a concentration spell not OP at all. True Rez why not how is that any different than rolling a new char that can be leveled up to your current level.

I think Wish should be a reward not a punishment at least if it's not from an Ifrit, a fey or another trickster/malevolent source. But it's up to you at your table

There won't be any DLC. They already said that. Besides that, what are you going to fight with level 12 and beyond? Tiamat? Zariel?

They aren't planning any dlc at this point, no. But that doesn't mean they'll stick to that and might very well opt to make a dlc further down the line.

It wouldn't be the first game that wasn't gonna get a dlc.. but eventually did, and it certainly wouldn't be the last.

It would be the first Larian game.

Everyone is on and on about high level spells breaking the game. Have you ever played table top like ever? There are some really low level items that are more powerful than level 9 spells. Bag of Beans please roll a d100, Did he say d100? Yes, d100. Oh lord what have we done. Decanter of endless water a portable never ending fire hydrant. The Immovable Rod , Eversmoking Bottle, That's just to name a few.

On the subject of the level 12 cap. 5e does get a bit wonky past about level 14. Because of how they front loaded classes in 5e. But if you want to try some d20 gaming that goes all the way to the cap you should check out either of Owlcats Pathfinder games. They are using the Pathfinder system which is based of DnD 3.5 with a lot of modifications.

I don't play D&D, so my points of reference are only books, other people's experiences and other game systems I play and GM for 2 decades. I only know these spells in theory and they really sound strong. Not that gamebreaking like high level disciplines in Vampire, which are just story devices.

They meant it about the full game. I’m not sure if an expansion counts. Would basically be like baldurs gate 3.5

Of course the deluxe edition is already pretty much dlc

There will be no additional content that would raise the lvl cap, period.
So no more story content and no more XP than the game already has.
Ok but if they make a new game called Baldurs gate 3: Something Something In That Direction, and it lets you import your characters and choices and it’s about the same size as baldurs gate 3 then I’d pay $60

Wizards of the Coast allowed them to use the licencing I don't think Larian will be allowed to say no. Expansions are a known trade mark for BG titles would have to see the contract that Larian signed in getting the licencing.

What?
Larian is private company owned by Swen, he does not get told by anyone what to do.
Mattel has no strings to pull, they can pay him a lot of money and convince him, but honestly since he refused to sell Larian to corporation many times already.
I don't think he would do it.
Look I'd like more content too, but they already said it won't happen.
They are already starting to work on a new project unrelated to DnD.
So it's not gonna happen for like 5 years even it would happen.
That’s not how licensing works

you would need to read the agreement that Larian made with Wizards.. Larian begged them to allow them to make this game and BG is known for its expansions. I would not be shocked if the terms said that Larian is responsible for X amount of future content.

And Wizards is known for cancelling DnD games. I would not be shocked if the terms said that they couldn’t pull the plug at a certain point

But the CEO of Larian already said it’s not gonna happen!
No more BG3 content is in the plans at all atm.
That tells you it was one of deal to make a game as it is now.
Not sure why you don’t understand that.
