Nere Act 1 question

During Nere Fight act 1, while siding with Brithvar, my quest bugs out. So my question is do we have some benefits/ later dialogue with Duergar/ Elder Brithvar in the following acts?
Cause if not the best way to progress my quest would be to kill all Duergars. Small spoiler is appreciated thanks.

Then kill Nere and while fighting him Duergar leader, after ask to free slaves.
Take high grounds from the start, let your 1 character to speak for commence of the battle.

I found if Brithvar dies in the fight the quest it bugs out and there is no way to save the gnomes. He dies pretty easily too because Nere and his cronies love to bunt whoever they can into the lava.

I did that, but this quest is buggy. It register me as killing guards and my Paladin's oath is broken. that's why I started this thread to understand if there is any repercussion of killing the whole group and save only gnomes.

Its happened to me, but in this case just another Duergar took his place, gave 500 gold and and it was possible to persuade him to release the gnomes

In my first play through I have talked with Brithvar and got him my side against Nere. But in my second play through when ever I tried to talk with him, he always in private conversation. Is it a bug or I am doing something wrong. In both of the cases I have got Rune powder first.

Little late for the party but I found the answer! You must first drop any for of gunpowder items (granades and sachels) that you carry (because you need them to advance the quest AFTER you talk to Brithvar). Then you must talk to Stone Guard Kur not Brithvar himself.
