Possible Glitch with Raphael's quest regarding Orthan Yurgir
So I'm not sure what occurred with the quest "Kill Raphael's Old Enemy" for me, but it really didn't seem right.
I accepted the quest from Raphael outside the Mausoleum. I didn't realize this initially, but I apparently walked in a certain direction that caused me to immediately end up in battle with Yurgir without any dialogue taking place, like I've seen others experience. That alone wouldn't be a problem for me, but after he was killed, I never had Raphael contact me or show up regarding this quest again. I was really bummed about this because I've been trying to keep Astarion in my party despite him being one of the weaker team members, simply due to the fact that I find his story to be quite intriguing. I never learned what was written on his back - after I killed Yurgir, I noticed the quest changed to saying "Raphael left without telling us what was written on Astarion's back - I guess we'll have to ask [his master] in Baldur's Gate ourselves".
I just can't see this being what the dev's meant to happen. If they allow you to be ambushed by this sidequest boss without engaging in the dialogue, then it shouldn't cause the rest of the sidequest to simply act like you never killed him to begin with. Just... so bizarre.

...Other than some glitching with quests here and there, and some other random, less frustrating glitches, I truly think this game is a masterpiece and I'm sure they'll fix this quest eventually (if it is indeed glitched for me like I think it is). If anyone has any light they can shine on this occurrence for me, I'd greatly appreciate the help!!

I've had the same problem where Yurgir doesn't trigger his dialogue when entering his room. He's immediately hostile towards me, which I think might not be intended? It's frustrating since I've been trying every possible way to trigger his dialogue.

You have to follow the displacer beast to get him to do dialogue with you, if you enter from the other sides you will trigger combat, I wasn't actually aware this was why my Astarian quest was like this but thanks for the info.
i hate that name so much.

I accidentally avoided Yurgir's ambush and took him out without seeing any dialogue. Raphael met me at my camp and finished the quest.

Instant battle triggered the moment I stepped through the front door of the room. I have no idea if he was made hostile because I'd raided the side room and the mirror room underneath his before I was even aware that there was an ambush set in place in that area.

So for anyone stuck and looking at this I just spent over 30 minutes trying to get the dialogue before I realized I had used misty step to get to that side differently to get loot and upon going back could not get the displacer beast. On your first time going to that side you need to follow the broken stair case to the door (jump will -4 health without feather fall) I had to backload my save to get a dialogue proc then worked first time. Good luck :)

Ditto, I happened to see the roof and thought it might have some treasure so jumped up and Boom! instant combat, no dialogue so I thought I didn't have a choice and killed him. Same as Noct, where I then auto-completed the quest in camp afterward. :(

I have this bug as well. Cannot trigger the conversation with Yurgir

Just figured this out myself. Had to reload a save far enough back where the displacer beast was still lingering in the hallway. Whenever you get close it runs off, you need to follow it into the final room it enters (below the demons) and it will initiate a cutscene. Taking that alternate path and discovering them up top with perception seems to leave you with only having to fight them all and no conversation.

I go after the displacer and perceive Yurgir:lunar2019laughingpig:

Oh, there's an auto-save file, which can go back to the moment following the displacer.

Didn't get this glitch although I approached and killed Yurgir the same way

By the way "despite him being one of the weaker team members" you really don't know how to use a rogue

My Astarion took half the HP of the Act 2 final boss in ONE HIT.

I got this problem as I'd been told to kill the dude, so I thought I'd get a headstart and ambush him to get surprise. As you do. It didn't make sense to walk up and say hi to him first. No cutscene, of course, and Raphael never showed up at my camp after several long rests. The quest is marked as complete.

I'm so upset that I've missed out on it now. I've played a long way since that point and the fight itself took me ages, so I don't want to reload. I hope they fix the dialogue trigger so this doesn't happen for other people. (If they managed to fix it so Raphael pops up retroactively for me, that would be great, but unlikely.)

I missed the displacer beast and my save point is so far back its hours worth of backtracking and a few trials. Uhhhh

I have the very same problem. However, I DID have the conversation with Yurgir:

I encountered Raphael at the entrance of the mausoleum, I had Astarion in my party and I knew about his markings, but he didn't mention anything about them to Raphael.
Later on, I went to camp and talked to Astarion. A dialogue option was available to tell him that I met Raphael and that I couldn't ask him about his markings.
Then I went to Shar's Gauntlet and had a conversation with Yurgir, he told me about his contract with Raphael and then I killed him.
Since then I haven't heard of Raphael until Act 3, and I still know nothing about Astarion's markings.
