Damn. Here I thought they would actually make a use for rope, at least.

They did.

in shadow lands, you have to fight a group of stranglers. Their move is to lasso your neck with a ROPE, strangle you, choke you, and teleport 30m away randomly, so your guys cant rescue your guy.

When you kill them, they drop said rope.

So...technically....rope has a use. Just, not for you. Or, well, FOR you, or more specifically, for your neck.

Surprisingly cool fight actually. For a few random mobs, they really messed my party up, almost had to reload. Choke prevents spellcasting or actions, and does a ton of damage, so....Fun fight.

......
So they DIDN'T make a use for it.
That isn't a USE for rope, that's a DROP from an enemy that has an ability that has an animation that shows a rope.

Vendor trash just like spoons, bottles, books (after you read them), cups, plates and SOOOO many more items. Just sell them all.

Any achievement or reason to read books? I've been reading every one, never seen a reason so far.
There is an achievement for reading 100 books I think?

you get quest knowledge that can give you extra dialogue option. you can get inspiration from certain books, one that comes to mind is the book on mind flayers, that you can buy/steal from the mind flayer who tries to help you. and if you read 100 you get an achievement

Ingots can be used to upgrade equipment, though.
Where?

There's Infernal Iron (not an ingot) which is used to create new equipment or used for something else that's plot-related to an Origin. (You'll need to decide which is more important to you.) There's sussar bark that's used to enhance just one of three non-magical weapons.

I haven't found anyone who'll use ingots for anything.

There is a single workbench that they forgot to remove when they were cutting everything before release, it's in act 3, so far in game, you don't really need any of this ♥♥♥♥ anymore, nor there is any kind of introduction or explanation how it supposed to work. It's just there

there's an achievement for reading 100 in a single playthrough, sometimes they'll let you discover new locations too, but nothing really "hidden" so you'd more than likely just find them by exploring anyway

The information in the books can assist you with dialog, such as answering questions about uses for ointment.

Books, diaries, notes, etc., can also mark "hidden" treasures on your map from time to time, as well.

if i remember correctly, the rope was used to go down in the goblin village to the underground with spiders, ingots and hammers for crafting now i haven't found a way to combine them, unless the forge in the goblin village
I think a better question is: Has anybody tried doing anything with the Purple Fluorite Crystals yet?
While I appreciate everyone's answers so far, the items you guys keep lumping them with are not actionable items and it's clear ya'll don't really know.

Purple Fluorite Crystals have an action associated with them, so at the very least you can throw them....
Curio for collection

You can't use ingots for upgrades. Don't copypaste misinfo without bother checking the validity. Even if EA BG3 have ingot upgrade option - as of now release version THERE ISN'T.

I literally have couple dozens of various ingots by the Netherbrain fight.

This is what I was talking about. People doing copypasta of IGN or whatever and not actual experience.

I read all these useless comments hoping someone would bring this up... not necessarily in the form of a question... but c'est la vie

How and where? Are you sure that wasn't for a scrapped aspect of the game? I've encountered no way of upgrading weapons and armour, which I was expecting there to be because there's fecking grindstone wheels everywhere, even in camp. And also forges/bellows. But other than the one you use to complete the "Masterwork weapon" (ie, the Sussur weapon) and obviously the Adamantine Forge, none of them do anything as far as I've been able to find out. You can't even interact with most of them, except to blow bellows, and the one grindstone wheel in the Goblin camp that does have a "Use" button, which clicking did absolutely nothing for me.

And then there's the very specific "Combine" things like the broken spear bits and the various "Icy" bits, but they are all named pieces, not using ingots or any blacksmithing tools.

So if you've come across an actual example of ingots being used to upgrade equipment - or indeed any ability to upgrade equipment - I'd genuinely really love to know how!

I know there was another game I played where scavenged metal, blacksmithing equipment and your weapon resulted in a +1 or something - and definitely one where you needed to use the grinding wheels to sharpen your weapons because they blunted and dulled after a certain amount of use - but can't remember if that was Divinity Original Sin (the only other Larian game I've played) or something like The Witcher.
