Is another one of those thingies, where you need to spend ton of time, to get some gold in the game. You get for every second destroyed glowing gem 1 shard you can sell for 5 gold, but it is very tedious to destroy even one.
Most are, sometimes you get uses for misc. items, like shovels

Purple Fluorite Shard is a gemstone that has a purple color and a hexagonal shape. It is a common Alchemy Crystal that is sold for gold.
Similarly, it is one of the many crafting materials that can be used to create or enhance items in Baldur’s Gate 3.

That's just copypasta from this link:

Which I think is inaccurate

It's useless. Just like ropes, hammers and ingots.

Damn. Here I thought they would actually make a use for rope, at least.

I imagine ropes had a use in some earlier version of the game that got dropped, there is a ton of them all over, at some point I imagine Larian might have had adventure tools as an idea but scrapped it, the same goes for all the ingots and the supposed scrapped crafting system. (Which we did have in DOS2), a lot of it is also just there for flavour, Larian is known to add a ton of trash items that only really serve as set dressing, which isn't a bad thing, but if you're used to items only being intractable for a reason, it may be confusing.

Ingots can be used to upgrade equipment, though.

Vendor trash just like spoons, bottles, books (after you read them), cups, plates and SOOOO many more items. Just sell them all.

Any achievement or reason to read books? I've been reading every one, never seen a reason so far.

They did.

in shadow lands, you have to fight a group of stranglers. Their move is to lasso your neck with a ROPE, strangle you, choke you, and teleport 30m away randomly, so your guys cant rescue your guy.

When you kill them, they drop said rope.

So...technically....rope has a use. Just, not for you. Or, well, FOR you, or more specifically, for your neck.

Surprisingly cool fight actually. For a few random mobs, they really messed my party up, almost had to reload. Choke prevents spellcasting or actions, and does a ton of damage, so....Fun fight.

Where?

There's Infernal Iron (not an ingot) which is used to create new equipment or used for something else that's plot-related to an Origin. (You'll need to decide which is more important to you.) There's sussar bark that's used to enhance just one of three non-magical weapons.

I haven't found anyone who'll use ingots for anything.
