Coop while I control the NPC of a Friends game

Is it possible? We cant drag and drop the characaters in the session screen, they are ,locked. Want to join a Friend in his running game, controlling an NPC, not playing a new one.
Or does it simply not work?

This is a complaint I see a lot and as of right now, it doesn't work which imo hurts the drop in drop out potential of the game.

Doesn't it force your friend to control an origin character if your party is already full? I remember someone mentioning this.

From what I read you should be able to join his in progress campaign and take over one of the companions.

I think they need to start the campaign alone first and then invite you when they have a NPC in the party.

Usually people want to play own creations, hence nobody knows for sure.

Why don't you just try it?
