I get they are going for a sort of 'bardcore' style. They have 1 or 2 decent tracks 'down by the river, I want to live, etc...' but apart from that it's all pretty much meh. Not bad, doesn't get irritating (which is nice), but certainly nothing to rave about.
I prefer deeper, more orchestral sound tracks. Journey OST, ORI, World of Warcraft (though I get that it'd be near impossible to match WoW...), even the Kingdom series and ONI I found to be more interesting (in their own quirky indie way).
The rests of the OP is the standard forum drivel against the game that they felt like sneaking in.
If I was going for originality, I'd give it a 2/10.
If I was going for the Larian composer has made some of the best game music in the last 20 years and they have found a theme? 17/10.
In this post I just said I dislike the music, which is a personal take.
Raphael Music is "cool", but it does not go "with the fight", only the start. It is just "a music".
It is not like other games which the music does change by the flow of the battle. And not only like FFXIV which change in terms of "the trash mobs", or the "final boss". Some games change the music while you are fighting according to your performance in the game.
To me, the music simply "playing", is not "redefining the market".
And objectively, BG3 does not redefine anything in terms of gaming market. THAT, that is objectively true. There is nothing about this game that is the first, the most advanced, the most innovative, or the best coded or designed feature. It is just not. You can like it, you can have fun with it, still does not make it innovative, better coded or better designed.
But this post, was just me talking about what I personally think about the music.
I felt like Borislav Slavov really had a good soundtrack for DOS2, but BG 3 isn't anything too memorable IMO. It's not terrible, but I can't really remember it the way I can some soundtracks.
One of the best and memorable boss fight music in any game.
And my favorite track is the main theme of Wrath of the Righteous.
I feel like BG3 OST is a bit more in your face while DOS2 OST more easily works in the background during a fight. I like the more subtle music.
Jokes aside. I like DoS2's ost better, and I don't get why people are so upset over criticisms on the soundtrack. It truly is not the best. And I don't know much about gaming industry so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but when it comes to CRPGs, the cinematic, the mocaps - those are definitely new.
As for the mechanics and programming, none of those are groundbreaking new techniques, sure. But I think this is an example of transition from quantity to quality. Just the amount of details and honest work put into this is exceptional.
Why are you mentioning other parts of the game if you only want to criticize the music though?
