if you don't like RPGs, DND, swords and magic then run far far away from this game
Also I love how combat encounters are designed. Its the closest to a pen and paper RPG session Ive played in a game.
The dialogues are all voiced, the text is in optional books.
Disco Elysium had difficult english, this is way easier.
Ive played a lot of games and at this point I recognize patterns in games, usually nothing surprises me that much. But I am constantly surprised by baldurs gate, and the longer it goes, the more impressed I am.
Personally, I went from "this is a very good game" to "I dont remember when I felt this way about a video game" in two days time, and 30h of playing the game.
Sometimes it really feels that you have a dungeon master over your head, throwing you curveballs
aaaah thx thats a good comparison
You can just limit yourself to reading the dialogue options and listening to what they say.
There is a lot of dialogue tho.
And you can of course go bonkers reading all the notes and books.
Personally I enjoy it very much and it gets better and better once you realize that the game is very flexible in how you approach situations and there is variance in how the story unfolds.
When it comes to setting, atmosphere, tone, companions, storyline etc, imo its good but there are better options, especially the classics.
You nailed it and said it better than I did. That is the real magic.
these type of rpgs have always been niche but I think they made it a little more new player friendly in terms of game play. They also packed this game full of content and a ton of fun stuff to do. No matter what youre are doing it feels rewarding. Thats why i think a lot of people play it.. because its a fresh breath of air
1. There is a lot of talking but the whole thing is voice acted. You can always review the text of the whole dialogue so far if you were just listening and forgot something someone said.
2. Yes it is that good. It's a hard core party based cRPG using the D&D 5e rule set. It is NOT an action RPG. If you haven't played a proper cRPG before you may not know what that entails, you should find out, however BG3 is about the best cRPG to start with ever released I would say. Ideal for your first time with the genre.
