Am I dumb or is this just a stupid plothole? (SPOILERS)
SPOILERS!

So i just got to act 2 and Isebol and Jaheira told me to infiltrate the Absolute's place and kill their general Ketheric.
Right after meeting Isebol, Marcus flies in and tells us to bring Isebol to Ketheric.

This seems like the best opportunity the "goodguys" have in getting to and infiltrating/killing Ketheric. Because his minion just straight up takes us to him, seems like a major shortcut to me and a lot less hassle + Ketheric thinks we are siding with him, making it easier to backstap him.

But this doesn't seem clear to Isebol, so if you tell her she's like "NOO YOU'RE WITH THEM, ATTACK!!!!!!!!!!"

think i'm just going with Marcus here and screw Isebol because she's dumb af, for refusing a sneaky sneak to kill Ketheric...... guess i'm evil now.... (hire a better writer devs, like Chris Avelonne).

EDIT

Okay so i sided with Marcus and let him take Isebol, but for some reason Jaheira still sees me as her ally and i'm still tasked to kill Ketheric...... what in the dang just happened.... Story is more stupid than i even thought lmfao.

Because you don't understand the story of Isobel. Marcus is very clearly a parody of something she loves and is being sent to spite her and force her to her to do something she doesn't want to. The story element of this part I like, the heavy handed allegory I don't.

Also Isobel can't leave the inn because she is maintaining the barrier.
djheat Aug 10, 2023 @ 1:46am
Isobel clearly needs to be in the inn to maintain the shield, if you fight Marcus and let her get kidnapped it drops immediately. Siding with Marcus and kidnapping her yourself is going to get the whole place killed, even if you do think it's a good backdoor to try to assassinate his boss

what are you talking about?

If she wants to save Marcus, than she would agree to come with him to kill Ketheric who is controlling him. Or atleast stop what's happening ASAP so that i can't happen to others.

It's not that complicated or deep.

Also this is the very first time we meet Isebol, so from a player's perspective she makes no sense and comes off as incredibly dumb and stupid. Which begs the question how she became this powerfull cleric in the first place.

true, but than again she could task us with getting the people to a more save place (it's dumb anyways that refugees seek refuge in an incredibly dangerous part of the world instead of the Goblin stronghold I wiped out for them)

Yes, but there's always a middleground (but not in this game it seems).

They are not seeking a refuge there. They were on the way to baldur's gate but cultists attacked them so they had to hide there.
And Jaheira and the harpers are there to stop the Absolute.
Goblin camp is cleared, sure, but it is not safe for them because cultists still exist when the player leaves the zone. Just because you clear it in game doesn't mean it is 100% safe in story.

Clearly you are not paying enough attention to what is happening in the world.

Jaheira also straight up tells you Ketheric is invincible so there's clearly more you need to do than just beeline it for him and shoot him with fireballs

If the barrier is lifted the curse kills nearly everyone immediately.
You can see the results if you choose to fight against Marcus and let Isobel die.

TL;DR letting her be captured is straight-up evil since you immediately kill the entire camp in order to shortcut your way to Kethric.

she also literally tells you that you need to go to him, infiltrate his place and figure out how to make him vulnerable............................. that's the whole point of going there.

Just saying, the game gives you a lot of reasons why your solution is less than optimal and why Isobel might not love you getting her kidnapped. Really not a plot hole

She doesn't care about Marcus that much. He's just a dude that protected her or soemthing was my gist of it. Marcus, as he appears in the inn from Ketheric, IS the parody of someone Isobel loves.

Only tangentially related, but boy did my toys leave the pram when I triggered that fight, practically killed Marcus and had him prone next to two angry Barbarians at the end of the first turn, only for Isobel to run off straight into three mobs, 'die', and trigger the abduction cutscene where Marcus just wanders off with her like I was chopped liver.

Yeah, coming back to that one once I've got a few more tools.

You clearly did not pay any attention to the story :D

1. Isebol is a damn healer... send her 1onX (you dont know how many people will there be with Ketheric) against and so called invincible beeing... welll sounds like a real good plan... not.
2. The moment she leaves, all others are dead. Shadows will take over and kill everyone... you might be able to save a handfull... maybe....
3. There was never any idication that YOU and your PARTY can go with Marcus, only Isebol... so where is the shortcut?
4. Marcus was one of the Defenders and seems to be a traitor, he received wings from Ketheric and henchmen... so as soon as someone you conside a friend suddenly burst into your room yelling that he betrayed you and all your people, bringing with him winged gargoly like killers... well YOU would think "good idea to go with him to backstab his master"? Dont think so...

Please... dont put this on the story writer... put it on you alone.
