I blame vendors refreshing after a long rest.
In BG2 money was always tight. Do I spend my hard earned money on the AC 4 bracers or do I first buy a decent STR girdle? In BG3 there is money in abundance and next to no excellent items. The vendors suck in general. Where is the special magic shop? Where is the cool thieves black market shop? Economy is not well implemented.
In BG3 you can easily steal "low priced" items around 1k value and sell them back as many times as you want so nearly the same like in BG2, endless money if you want to.
For spending money: there are some purple items in act3 at vendors for 11k+ available but in general you will end with too much money like in any RPG.
Some spells require expensive components, warships are expensive, a life-size statue of yourself in solid platinum would be very expensive unless you're somehow tiny. But, for instance, prices and availability are intentionally very vague; and it's not like magic items have explicit levels suggested for them, nor is there anything like a table suggesting that by level so-and-so you might reasonably have items w/ +X attack and +Y armor etc and +Z to saves.
Compare with, say, PF2e, where there is an expectation that, say, in the right place, like Absalom's Grand Bazaar, you could get something like a +3 weapon potency rune or a greater striking rune, and they have specific prices rather than ranges. It's just that with the way prices and rewards scale, the higher-end stuff just will be out of your price range for quite a while.
Tax the rich!
I have 30k and I never used pickpocket. Karlach can carry everything I find.
Level 9. Just entered Act 3.
The main issue is vendors refreshing gold when you had a long rest.
that can't be from just fight loots
