You can't start as a Aasimar?
You can start as a Tiefling, a partial demonic being, but you can't start as a Aasimar, a partial divine?

I remember playing a D&D campaign as a Aasimar Paladin Chaotic Good character a long time back. It feels odd that Tiefling is a choice but Aasimar isn't....

You can only play as races from thednd 5e Players Handbook.. Or a Gith apparently since they are integral to the story of the game I guess.

Races in BG3 take a lot of effort to implement due to all the unique interactions they can have in dialogue, with some like drow leading to entirely different outcomes. So Larian decided to mostly just stick with PHB races in order to keep their workload for launch manageable. Hopefully if this game ever gets dlcs or a definitive edition they'll add more races to the game.

The Aasimar ARE part of the fifth edition.

Tieflings play as "humans that look different" in this anyway, so you're not missing out on anything if there was to be an Aasimar.

Then dragonborn appeared with a total of 4 race interactions in act 1.

Reread their statement. They specifically mentioned the player's handbook, ie base 5e. Aasimar were only added sometime later after 5e initially came out.

They must be part of the PHB, not 5e altogether.

Eh, they can have glowing eyes, metallic hair, and potentially a halo or wings, so they look really cool as a good wizard or Paladin. I loved playing a Chaotic Good Aasimar Paladin.

They arn't from Standard. looking at my book now, they arn't in there.

do you know which book they are from? BG3 only has Standard races
Asssmears are not part of the original PHB they went off of, they got all of those races.

You sure about that? I feel like I've seen much more than 4 options in Act 1, and definitely more in Act 2.

Ah, they are from the 5e Volo's Guide to Monsters as one of three playable races introduced in that book.
