Best Companions, story l-wise (no spoilers please!)
(This is pro-woke. If you’re anti-woke, please don’t spread your drivel here.)

Story-wise, who are your favorite/the best companions/romances? I don’t care about why at this point, because I want to avoid spoilers.

Thanks!

Pretty much everyone but Astarion is interesting to me.

I hate him, he's annoying, and useless in combat to me. Rogues are bad in 5E. I see no need for them at all in any circumstance. Story wise he's nowhere near as interesting as the others.

The fact that you actually call this pro woke shows you care nothing about writting quality and just about agenda. As such, Helsin, he basically enters your party, says nothing and then want furry bun action.

Shadowheart is probably the most involved, even if you can see her entire story coming from a mile away with even passing knowledge of the subject matter. Karlach doesn't get much in terms of story but she's far and above the most wholesome and adorable companion in the game and any time she gets screen time is a treat.

While I agree that astarion is a duche and my playthrough is better for him being dead.

BUT! Rogue aren't bad in 5e it's one of the most versatile, durable classes in the game and have the highest most consistent single target damage out put. ( No a paladin going nova isn't consistent it uses resources )

The class might not be suitable for you play style which is fair enough, but that doesn't make them bad :)

To me it would be Shadowheart, no doubt. I loved her quest! Can't say why without spoilers though, but her past is very interesting.

So far tested SH, Astarion and Karlach. Liked them, but SH borders somewhere between 'alright' and 'good'. Good because she's chimming in often, but minus points for her story itself.

As opposed to the AncientToaster I really like Astarion. In addition to lockpicking and disarming traps my party uses him as a ranged stealth unit to pick peripheral enemies off without triggering combat. He's more evil than my party so he's fun to have around with some of his quips, but he also doesn't antagonise anyone (so far). He would have been my romance choice if I wasn't set on Karlach. Next playthrough, definitely.

Karlach's is the most charismatic of all the companions and perfect for my Tiefling Bardlock.

I play in coop and those are the two we play with, primarily based on personality I guess since we're doubling up on barbarians.

I think that most of them would be fine, other than Gale but his initial dialogues with my characters based on class were infuriating and I'm tolerating him in my camp and that's it :)
