Pretty good advice, though I want the exp too, so I kil him instead :P
"only and extra 1d4"
2d6+3 damage + 1d4 fire damage is exception for act 1 though. Haven't beaten act 1 yet so I wouldn't know how well it scales in further acts but its great so far.
I always have Lae'Zel or Kharlak or alternate between the two in my party so I'm constantly doing good damage.
So ye it's pretty good.
Or just pick up every explosive barrel you come across, pile them up around him and the Mind Flayer, and then have Shadowheart ignite them from far away.
That's how I've been killing the prick since EA. Works on Cambions, too.
Didn't even know there were explosive barrels in the area.
1d4 will on average produce 2.5 damage. Compare to a +1 weapon, which will give +1 damage and also +1 to hit. So not as much damage per hit, but slightly more hits. Which one is better is contentious; you can decide that for yourself.
The point is that you don't have access to a +1 Greatsword for a bit, and yet is is quite possible to survive long enough to get one without having to have the Everburn Blade. That's why I say you don't need it. However, even if you don't need it you might want it... which is why I said the OP was good advice.
Um, no? There's 3 purple pods in the final fight. I guess they did remove the ones on deck since that whole segment is gone, but they're still on the bridge because that's still how I kill him.
Does that actually straightup kill him though? I know that dude is resistant to fire damage and the mindflayer isn't...so wouldn't you just end up nuking the mindflayer and tickling Zhalk?
By the time I clear out the little mobs and get someone stationed at the device, the flayer has weakened him to about 50 / 60 HP, and the explosions usually take care of whatever is left.
I mean it's always a roll of the dice, but as I said, that's how I've been killing him in EA and that's how I got my Everburn blade this time as well.
