Forge boss near impossible, guide useless
Ive positioned my team like all the guides I've seen on yt and read. the boss doesn't path the way other video shows. After the first hit, he's always pathing away from the center, even when he walks over it , he's walking outside the blast radius and i cant do anything to bring him back in range. WTF is going on?

You attack it it targets you.

Pull lava valve. Position someone on the mold box. Shoot an arrow and draw it to center. Smash. Repeat, kill

Multiple tricks to this fight. Whoever deals damage to the boss draws the bosses agro, meaning he'll path straight towards that character. However, to deal damage to the boss, they have to have a debuff from being in the lava. If it doesnt have the lava debuff then you cant do damage, and then you cant draw agro

You won, I guess, but for anyone else who sees this, you just need to abuse the boss's trait that makes them move and attack the last person who hurts them. As long as you position right, you can force them to stand in the lava, or wherever else you want

I didn't think to use the forge hammer on him and I still managed to beat it on tactician. Didn't do too much special besides keep him vulnerable by luring him through the lava and taking advantage of trait that makes him go after the last person who hits it. Just have a tanky character hit him last and bring him away from the others.

i usually just sacrifice companions to stand on the thing in center to attack him then when he goes for them i pull lever and smash him for massive damage. then you just resurrect who you had die in that battle.

IIRC, it helps to have bludgeoning weapons equipped as its vulnerable to those.
Recjawjind Aug 9, 2023 @ 9:10pm
Wha? He's basically unable to do anything if you understand the mechanics. Even without using the smith hammer, he's piss easy if you have a single character that can hit him with a mace or club or maul or anything of the sort.

the forge boss is easy to beat .....karlch as barbar. yourself as paladin, shadow as kleric and gale as mage...
place one char of the fighters left and right side of the place where he comes out of the lava....place shadow at one of the "round " higher places.. and u are good ...gale can stand in the middle where the forge hamemr falls down....if all goes wrong, get the boss on the hammer platform, use the hammer to make dmg

Equip a two-handed blunt weapon on Karlach and Lae'zel.
Have them both drink a Potion of Hill Giant Strength and a Potion of Speed before turning the valve that activates the fight.
2-turn the boss.

Easy life.
Agreed with what the others are saying, I examined it and noticed it was vulnerable to bludgeon damage so just equipped my two melee characters and they easily killed it in two turns. Was kind of a bummer really, expected a really hard fight. I guess if you don't use melee at all to fight it would be tough

Just melee him down with bludgeoning weapons (hammers) and haste pots, no skill/strats needed. The oil of accuracy also helps. You can also use SHart to spawn a magical weapon (hammer) behind Grym on the lava (it flies so doesn't take damage), use it as the last attack to take 'aggro'. It's not necessary but can take free hit.

AFAIK the Spiritual Weapon always only deals Force damage, so Hammer form is unnecessary.

And the main weakness of this strat being that you have to actually hit Grym to aggro him, and the Spiritual Weapon has a fairly low chance to hit.

Position Gale next to the lava control lever and make sure he keeps the lava flowing. Give him a potion of speed and let him blast Grym with magic missile while your tank(s) bludgeon him. He goes down in 3 rounds.
