Why does weapon damage change when equipped?

Not sure if this is a bug or a DnD specific thing. I'm new to DnD's so I wouldn't know.
But specifically with my Paladin when I equip a weapon, the damage is generally 2 points lower than what it has in the inventory. So a 5~14 drops to 5~12 when equipped?

Other characters don't seem to have this issue, it's just mine and I don't see any of my armors or specific traits that would do this.

Or is this a trait of a versatile weapon?

I know that when you equip a weapon in the rogues offhand the damage goes way down.....

so maybe your paladin has something similar affecting the weapon stats?

Answered my own question I guess. It because a versatile weapon has a max damage when two handed without a shield. But a shield makes the weapon one-handed so it loses some damage.

Versatile weapons lower because of shields. All weapon take into consideration your proficiency (the number go up with levels) and weapons that are used with your stat (STR or DEX) gain +1 to attack bus also +1 to damage per level, BUT not if used in the offhnd - unless you take a particular trait.

Something else to watch out for is if a weapon has additional conditional damage (+1d4 damage to Burning enemies, for instance), the tooltip damage range will include that optional damage even though it will probably not be relevant most of the time.
