Leveling Up Question
Can you improve your stats when you level up? I thought there was a way to do that in DND? Also how do you multi class?

when you level up, you are given the option to multi class on the level up screen.
cant recall the exact location but there is a little button on the level up window that literally says multiclass if you hover over it (not the easiest to notice).
At every 4th level you are given the option to take a feat, or gain 2 stat points you can assign. so yes just like with dnd you can improve your character, but there are hard caps on max stats.

The button for multi-classing is in the upper right of the UI element when you click the "class" option on the left side during level up.

I played a ton of hours before i saw the button there.

I completely missed the multiclass button until I read people talking about taking levels in other classes. And yeah, you can increase stats with the ability score increase feat on levels 4/8/12 up to a max of 20

Every 3 or 4 levels you can get an extra feat, some of them improve your ability score. Though, I think it would be a waste compared to what's offered.

Increasing your attributes as you progress only happens when you choose an ASI (ability score increase) instead of a feat. Those are earned as you level up in individual classes, so if you multiclass you might end up with fewer feat/ASI choices than a single-class build.

Everybody gets a feat/ASI pcik at levels 4, 8, 12, 16, 19 (not that 16 or 19 is in BG3).
Fighters also get feat/ASI pick at levels 6 and 14 (not the latter in BG3 due to the cap).
Rogues get a feat/ASI pick at level 10.

If for some reason you do something like fighter 3/barbarian 5, you've only earned one feat/ASI pick, not two.

ASI = +2 to one ability score (max 20) or +1 to two different (again, max 20)

Some feats are sometimes referred to as "half-feats" because they give you a +1 and some benefit.

some of the feats themselves also boost a single ability score by one point, so in some cases those could be the better option for your build.
take your time and enjoy the process.

Whenever you take the fourth level of a class(not your character level specifically) you get to choose a feat. You can take a feat that gives you some mechanical benefits, an ability score increase(ASI) that gives you two points, or a "half feat", which splits the difference and gives you some benefits and +1 to any attribute. Some classes get a bonus feat at certain levels and can choose an ASI there - for example, Fighters get a bonus feat at class level 6.

When multiclassing, again keep in mind this is by class level, not total level. If you level a Cleric to 7 and then take a level in another class, you won't get a feat until you take your 8th Cleric level(or your 4th level in that new class).

Just so people know the multiclass button only shows up on runs of Balanced or higher, you cannot multiclass on the Explorer level

Correct. It is disabled for Explorer runs by design. That's intended. TC's Multiclass Unlocker mod can disable that. I think it also used to work that you just change the difficulty to Balanced, multi class your character, then set it back to Explorer. But then I've also heard recent patches interfere with this. Anyhoo.

You can level to 20 with the ULC mod or another, incidentally; but the actual stat cap is 30, not 20. There's even in-game items that can take your stats to 24.

Change the difficulty temporarily and you are fine to multiclass regardless of difficulty

Just make sure to change it back to Explorer if you need it
