Auntie Ethel takes no actions & ends her turn forever.
Auntie Ethel is bugged for me and when you fight her she is easier to kill than the rats that run around due to the fact that she takes no actions and just stands there before ending her turn after wasting time.

What sort of eldritch deity did I piss off to acquire such a bug? Every other combat encounter has been flawless and I'm nearly done with Act1, she's like the last loose end.

Did you arcane lock her basement door that leads underground? if you did she will get stuck trying to flee.

No she just stands there slackjawed in thought and makes no attempt to flee or act in perpetual harmony with my group.

It's honestly disturbing.

I am very sad right now. Anyone know what causes it? Any fixes.

Tested a (very long ago save) and she actually fights back....

The problem might be that I cleared all the way up to her door, snuck around the back stealing everything not nailed down, and buggered off for a long while to go kill the goblins and level up instead of fighting the Hag immediately.

Nah, I have done that a thousand times and that never caused her to not fight me. I always kill the redcaps and raid her upper floor then walk through the front door or just jump down to fight her.

No like I left the area after clearing everything except engaging her, went and finished the rest of the quests I could up till leaving for the next big area and then went back to fight her and I think that might be the trigger...

Like I have the quest to Celebrate at your camp for Halsin & the Teiflings both, genocided the goblins etc and then came back and she's just completely passive and won't do anything during combat lmao.

I just did her a couple days ago. She acted normal. Fought back. And like you, she has never "not" fought back.

I've experienced this with other NPCs. For example, Cyrel, who cast mirror image on her first turn and then started perpetually passing her turns, making no movement nor action.

It may be a more general AI bug than one specifically to do with Ethel.
You mean Z'rell?

Patch 7 introduced a bug where she would just stand there during the big Moonrise tower fight and do nothing.

Patch 8 fixed that. At least, it fixed it for me.

Cyrel, the wizard with the "Paladins of Tyr" in Act 1.
When was this? She's never not fought against me (unless I side with Anders, of course).

There does seem to be a timer for enemy AI, to prevent the game from getting hung. If an enemy gets stuck and can't figure out what to do, they time out. Mostly, in my experience, this relates to pathing. I think.

Just before the recent hotfix.
Ah, well I sided with Anders the only time I've been there in Patch 8, so if something was introduced in Patch 8, I wouldn't have seen it.

I dropped a bug report about it to Larian directly with the save data so hopefully they have a look at it.

I had the same bug and could not make her fight me, - she just stands still.
If you want her hair for the +1 stat but can't trigger her dialogue during the fight that's what I did:
1) Start the fight in the cabin (she stands still) and run away. Then return to the cabin - you will receive quest update that she fled through the fireplace. (I don't know if just going through the fireplace from the start will work but it can be quicker)
2) Follow her till you encounter her in the cave. The dialogue should start normally but in the fight she would still stand and do nothing.
3) Hit her so she uses her ability to make illusory clones.
4) Even if you figure out, where the real one is and where the clone is - DON'T kill the clone. Let the clone take the turn and blast you with magic or whatever.
5) Then just kill the clone and lower the hp of the hug. For me the dialogue for surrender started at 16hp.
Hope it helps someone. And of course I hope it will be fixed soon.

By the gods man you got lucky. Played early access, granted they only offered medium as lowest at the time, and that was the hardest boss fight ever. Eventually passed with a struck of luck and just shoving over the edge before fight begins.
