Rakish Sneak Attack bugged?
So I made Astarion a Swashbuckler, and I'm trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong, or if the ability is bugged.

As you can see in this picture, Astarion is using a Rapier to attack someone wielding a crossbow. I am using "Rakish Sneak Attack", but the prompt says I need advantage to use it. I thought the whole point of the swashbuckler was that you don't need advantage?

My understanding of it, allies cannot be in range neither.

Oh! ... okay, yes, I have been doing this all wrong. Thank you!

You can Sneak Attack an enemy right to their face. Being behind them for it is not a thing.

Frankly, OP, you not giving the entire image of what shows on the UI is doing you a disservice as when you target an enemy with sneak attack/rakish attack it shows under the enemies HP if they are countering your attack in some way.
One of the party members appears to be relatively close to Astarion. "Rakish Audacity" only applies if no creatures other than the target are within five feet of the rogue, so check that.
Well that answers my question. Thanks everyone!
None of this is consistent with the in-game descriptions. Even then it contradicts itself. Rakish Audacity says you no longer need advantage as long as you're within 5ft of the target. That's it. (Other than not having disadvantage which always applies to any sneak attack.) Yet Rakish Sneak Attack (Melee) says you don't need advantage if there are no other combatants within 7ft or you have an ally within that range. OK, if you have an ally within that range or you are within 5ft, then there IS another combatant within 7ft. So wtf? Also, Rakish Sneak Attack (Ranged) says the same, but I can target an enemy who's 20ft away from anyone, and it still says I need advantage. Nothing in any of it says anything about how close or far someone needs to be from you. The whole thing is just plain messed up.

simply use one of the bonus action moves (the special vicious mockery, throw sand, or flick o the wrist)

these abilities give you advantage on your next attack

1) It's called an Exception, hence an Ally is not an "combatant" because its referring to Non-ally Combatants.

2) Rakish needs to be within 1.5m/5ft of the target. OUTSIDE of that Distance Sneak Attack functions as normal therefore you need Advantage to use Sneak Attack Ranged if outside Rakish Range to not need Advantage.

Just because the target is on their own doesn't mean Rakish ignores you need to be within 1.5m/5ft of the target.

Thanks for weighing in. That may be, but that's not what the description says. If it means "non-ally combatants" that's what it should say. A "yellow" combatant is not an ally, but is certainly a combatant. And no, Rakish Sneak Attack (Ranged) does NOT require you to be within 5 feet of the target or it would never work. You are always at disadvantage with a ranged weapon within 5 feet of your target (or any other enemy for that matter).

From what I can see so far, either the distance is stated incorrectly or the game can't measure properly, likely the former. When I put my cursor next to the enemy and it says 9.5ft away (for example) it won't let me sneak attack, but if I move another 5 feet away then it (usually) does. But still, once in a while, it fails even when all the conditions are met.
