Game just crashes
I've been playing the game again now that patch 8 is out and it was working great for the past 2 days, but all of a sudden the game just crashes 2 minutes after loading into the game. I just beat the myrkul fight and maybe it has something to do with it? If anyone knows please let me know bc I just wanna play the game lol

If you haven't yet, uninstall any mods that you currently have and reinstall BG3 as new. It's possible, if you've already modded the game, that you may have files corrupting your game.

Just happened to me today as well, no problems before with the latest patch installed. Only difference is the new Nvidia GPU drivers.

In any case, did a file verify and it's running again.

Yeah would be nice if you could actually read the dump files too, unfortunately you need to take a basic course to even read it once you get it loaded in,

Same problem - the initial patch 8 worked fine - then they patched it, and I crash every 20 minutes, now. I DON'T USE MODS.

That happened to me a few times when I got into act 3. Game just went poof. I restarted steam and the game and seems to be okay now but it was a shock. lost quite a few hours of game play.
The crash after the myrkul fight in act 2 seems to be a memory leak. Open up the task manager and check the memory usage. After the fight when you are back in the tower the memory usage should go up until it reaches a certain point and then the game simply crashes to desktop.

The game has a few of these points where it simply dumps too much data into the RAM.

And yes, people here will always tell you "it's a mod issue" even if you don't use them.
And no, I don't have a solution to this (atempting a clean reinstall myself right now).

Yeah right.
People usually lie about modded games as they already know what the answer will be for that. So usually they come up with the total genius plan of not telling people so they can keep their trashed savefile.
Resulting in people telling them to reinstall their whole system.
Which is a good thing as there are chances the trashed savefiles get lost.

The worst time to play pretty much any game is
(a):when it's brand new, or

(b):just after a major patch when you're part way through a run. Just like, how uninstalling mods can break a save file, modifying the game officially can also do this, unless the creators have preempted with a workaround for every possibility that their scripting allows for; and I'd imagine that gets quite extensive with a game like BG3.

Freezing games are much different from crashing.
Freezing for short periods of time ist mostly caused by overheating an then thermal throtteling.
Or by out of memory where the system trys to get some new virtual memory.

Mostly by mods where there will be thousands of errors per second untill you update all the broken mods you ever used.

You may need to manually clear the shader caching, and make sure that Steam shader caching is disabled, as it may be importing shaders that aren't compatible with your PC
