When mods actually break a game session (or are missing from load order and are required for a save file), they 99% will just quickly load to 100%, revert back to 75%, then bring you back to the first screen, then after going back to Main Menu a "Server is Shutting Down" message shows up or one other longer message sometimes (or error 302 which is actually a corrupted dead game file I think).
That said there is some wonkyness for myself with character creation post patch requiring me to load a game first before it will work lol (I haven't checked for further mod updates yet in the last 2 days so there may be a fix here already).
AND multiple options for looking fabulous! :D
I myself am cutting down on my mods by making my own personal mods now lol. Tired of changing up my clothing every 2 seconds and I know from my experience with NWN2, Draogn Age, and Bethesda modding that I can make what I want. :p
Much the same with old school like CRPGS such as Pathfinder games and Rogue Trader. I just make my own custom portraits which cuts down time for looking for the "perfect" one. :)
Then I have things like "Give my Arcane Vanguard a feat for every 2 levels" mod which really does only one narrow thing, affecting one other mod only. Or mods that take a particular item set and make it go into the tutorial chest. If not for mods like this, the count would be much lower.
Ironically, what I think are the most numerous mods, cosmetic ones, I barely use at all, because I really largely don't care about those things. Face swaps for Lae'Zel and Minthara are about all I've ever used. I mean, I really want to enjoy the faces I'm kissing, ya know.
Also, as I've said, some of the Nexus ones I can't use, because they require script extender or DLLs, so I can't use them. Dammit, that means BG3 Sex Framework, too. LOL.
The cool thing is it seems to me that Patch 8 Photo Mode does most of what NativeCameraTweaks does, anyway.
Ofcourse I only learned that after I did a whole reinstall lol.
Larian did a OK job of making a D&D game, but they did a amazing job making a divinity game with a D&D skin. I would love to see the game pure RAW Adventurers league from 5E in it's entirety. They missed so many subclasses, races, feats, spells and background options. No warforged, no Kenku, no Shadar-kai, no Loxodon, no Tortle, no Kobold, no Goblin, no Asimar, no freaking Goliath etc.... and that is just a few of the races they missed. That doesn't even encompass subclasses, feats, magic items. It's a ok represientation of D&D but I would absolutely prefer had all official materials been added even if they just sell them as DLC.
Without mods, it's not even D&D, it's divinty 3
Because none of that is in the Player handbook. All of that is expansion modules. And even then, they still threw us a bone and gave some out of Tasha's and Xanthar to round out some classes since not all of them had 3 Subclasses in the handbook.
Depends, what kind of stuff are you looking for? I am aware of mods that change the shading of the game to get nice images, but I mostly mess with clothing/gear, and faces.
I get that, but they should all be added, every single expansion in 5e. Every spell, every feat, every race, subrace, every subclass and background. All of it should have been pure vanilla. No changes to anything. Humans getting +2/+1 and no feat? +1 all if no feat. And as for "throwing us a bone" some of it was by name only. It in no way is a good representation of how powerful some combos actually can be. Then there is the level 12 cap... I can nit pick the game all day. I understand why it takes hundreds of mods to even feel like D&D otherwise it is just Divinity Orginal Sin: 3 with a D&D skin/naming mod.
Playing Durge for example, if you embrace the urge you massacre every single NPC you come across, or at least I do short few a few companions like Asterion that are fully amused by your murderous shinanigans, you accumulate XP so fast by the time you hit moonrise you are max level.
This just comes off as pure spoiled unreasonable entitlement... They had a hard enough time as is translating DnD into a video game and balancing things so the classes are enjoyable. "Every feat" many Feats are useless in DnD itself, let alone translating it to a video game where they outright wouldn't work at all. Even modders do not put in "Every feat" and will skip some, even straight up skip class Traits when doing "5e RAW" classes. If they are skipping traits, whole ass abilities, and more when porting in "5e RAW", then that tells much of how DnD RAW does not work in a video game setting.
The amount of bloat systems they'd need to put into the game to accommodate that junk would make this thing sit in development purgatory like Star Citizen and Larian ain't got that kinda money, nor were they crowd funded like Star Citizen.
Yeah, do not misconstrue my having over a hundred mods as most of that being some addition of more grass roots DnD. Most of my mods are faces, hairs, clothing (no stat clothing), more gear variety, and then when it comes to classes added to the game, most ain't even in DnD (Articifer, Drakewarden, and Echo Knight [had to remove this one as a dependency mod causes Paladin's to react to EVERYTHING with their Smite] are the only ones out of like... 12 Classes added. probably +40 Subclasses), and only ONE race mod in my list at all (Aasimar, suppose two since I sometimes run Cambion for Tieflings).
Will reiterate; I had over 700hrs into BG3 before I started going ham on modding. I can play BG3 without the mods and still enjoy it thoroughly. Most DnD in the real world wilds ain't even DnD but homebrew with some DnD bones. Most popular "DnD" ain't even DnD but homebrews spawned from it.
Uhh ok, very weird hoarder flex.
I don't know how you found that many good mods
