My games completely ruined and cant fix it
firstly yes i was using mods, but followed all the proper steps that people have posted here to fix it and legit nothing has worked, cant even get to the main menu. I've fully removed all mods and gone into the game files cleared all of it, I've verified file integrity, refreshed the launcher and game by changing the language, reverted to patch 7, fully uninstalled and reinstalled the game and still i get the same message. " Failed to load main menu from the current game mod . The main menu in that mod requires the level . Make sure to clear any local mods and try again. if the problem persists contact larian support." No idea what to even do now its totally beyond me :(

If you're truly at a loss, then the last resort is to go into your registry.
this is a very serious last step that you should not do, but sometimes applications leave behind data in the registry that isn't removed by anything short of an intentional, precise, deletion.

But without knowing which mod is causing the issue, you can't know which registry is the culprit.

However, let me propose something slightly unorthodox. Instead of trying to play with zero mods, which the game already thinks you have a mod since you're getting the infamous Level screen, then what if you install JUST the mod that enables mods. I forget what its called, but its the first mod everyone has to install in order to get mods to work at all, it removes that screen. What if you just install that mod, and only that mod. Because the game already thinks you have mods, so why not treat it as if it was right?

Make sure you delete the BG3 folder entirely. You may also need to go into the Steam mods folder for BG3 and delete all those as well (at least unsubscribe from everything). Lastly, look in your Appdata folder for BG3 info and delete that as well.

I'm sure others may have a better step by step.
same, mine said that line before I nuked vortex. After a complete uninstall of both BD3 and Vortex, the game just says: "Cannot start the game because it cannot open main menu," With 0 mods

Look for modsetting.lsx and delete it. Happen to me. Should be in this file address
in the c drive. AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public

I was having the same problem only now my game will run but refuses to acknowledge patch 8, I can't see any of the new subclasses in the level up menu or character creation. Uninstalled and deleted every folder related to the game and my mod manager (also deleted). Reinstalled and checked the 'tegrity of the files and still NOTHING.
how tf did this update break everything SO bad, like with other games that this has happened I've been able to fix it within like 30 minutes

go to %appdata% Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3
send the PlayerProfiles folder to the shadowrealm, and try again.

did that already and nothing , id like to add that i didnt even have improved UI or any mods like that, that people say are the biggest culprit i just had new weapons and armour
I was having the same problem, what worked for me was deleting the entire bg3 steam folder, removing bg3 from my vortext list, going into the appdata files and deleting both moddsetting.lsx files (there was a second that said backup) AND deleting the entire mods folder in the appdata>local>larian>bg3, then reinstall
