Best class for a solo attempt?
I detest the companions in this game...they have been nothing but a steady stream of trouble for me, so, I'm going to ditch them and try a solo run. I'm want to make a special forces type of guy - Ranger/Thief/Fighter - and see how it goes. If you have a better character build that you've used to beat the game solo let me know.

Just so you know: I don't watch videos to figure anything out; I'll read the wiki...but nothing else. If I can't figure something out on my own I will drop it and move on. We'll see how far I can get! Thanks in advance, guys!

probably some kind of stealth archer build with the goal to kill enemies individually without ever actually entering "combat"

My thoughts exactly!

You are going to get help trying to do a solo run. In some shape or form. I have watched several videos of so called solo runs and if you can believe them ( because videos are not hard to edit, cut and tweak with software ) there are several classes which can do it.

I watched one where a Open Hand Monk did it. And one where a Paladin, etc. Several Boss fights are not going to allow you to do a hit and hide approach. One which can negate damage I would think would be important. And at the same time, deal out a large amount of damage.

I am not sure any class can beat the Open Hand TB Monk when it comes to raw damage output in one round. But the Last Boss fight, the Netherbrain, is going to be a hell of a challenge solo and with only the help of a Mindflayer. Because he becomes immune to types of previous damage the round before on Honor Mode.

I watched a video of a Open Hand Monk doing it, but he had only 4 hit pts left when the Brain was controlled. :p

just a thought, you could use the hirelings from Withers, all the benefits of being in a party without the stories of other characters.

That's a good suggestion. And they can be just as effective.

Check Sintee youtube, he's a very skilled solo Honor player, and probably one of the best when it comes down to Larian Games,
He released regularly solo honor very detailed video builds.

I did solo most of act1 with thief/gloomstalker.
But not sure if in later acts all fights can be exploited by stealth.
Specially some of the boss encounters.
In Act1 however hard part was to get to lvl3, once I had 2 bonus actions, I could exploit any fight in act1.

Other option would be to get AC and saves so high nothing can really touch you. Some cleric? The storm one for maximizing dmg?

Stealth can be kinda abused by non stealth chars in this game anyways.

I'd still have to babysit those idiots too. Traps/encounters are magnets for companions. XD

You can separate your char from them and keep them in stealth mode back from your char until you feel you need them. And use them to buff your char.

You've completed a solo playthrough as a Bard?

To be fair, Not a true 'solo' run higher than tactician. But yes tactician bard get the hireling buffs at camp and go.
