Kinda depressing.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are
still alive.

Dunno why this song just popped in my head...:P
I kind of consider a couch potato to not be living, just surviving.
That is still nice. I would think more along the lines of "My R" - translation by annapantsu
However, once you meet those needs, there are higher order needs that human beings need. Like for love, companionship, meaningful work, creativity, leisure, aesthetic enjoyment, learning, and so on.
But, as Maslow always notes, it can be hard for people to focus on the higher level needs, when they are having difficulty just meeting the first level ones, and just struggling to survive.
BTW, I don't know the exact reason for the question, or what it has to do with this game, but... I hope that wasn't a cry for help from OP.
We do what we must, because we can.
For the good of all of us, except the ones who are dead.
Was there some kind of life lesson to be learned in the game? For me, lessons I learn about life don't come from entertainment media but from living life.
Being alive for another day is still something new with a hungry tadpole in your head, that could change you into an Illithid at any moment, weren't it for the Emperor's protection, which at the time your character doesn't know about. After you find out about your protection, that sentence doesn't make much sense anymore, but it does in the begining of the game and Larian didn't code it to disable later when you do uncover the truth.
The connection is that your character is sometimes saying this "still me, despite everything" when you click on a mirror and "still breathing, despite everything", when you select them. Maybe even "still alive, at least that's progress", at some point, but not sure about that one. But the two actual quotes can still be interpreted as being alive being seen as progress.
