Hexblade Mod.
I want to do a Wyll play through, but I am torn between waiting for the official Hexblade subclass, which could be a while or Using the Hexblade Mod.

Has anyone played the Mod is it worth playing or should I wait?

I'd wait for the official Hexblade subclass, tbh.

I tried the mod and it's fine.

There's some little things, like Eldritch Smite can't be tied to a reaction like a regular Paladin smite can, your options are to just have it on or proc on crits.

I assume the official subclass is going to be more polished and have some Larian tweaks to fit the game better.

I don't understand what exactly that picture is supposed to prove,

But I used one I found in the in-game mod section.

That's a passive. Not a reaction...

Oh no, you have to hit a key to make more damage once per turn. Better than being dependent on crits, no?

No, because there is plenty of times where a non-critical hit gets them down to where a lower tier Smite is enough instead of blowing an entire Warlock upcast spell slots on the hit, doing 40 plus damage when all I need is 10 or less. Better off just doing Pact of the Blade, two Paladin, the rest Sorcerer or Bard.

The whole tied specifically and only to Warlock spell slots when no Warlock spell is so long as you have an appropriate Level Spell slot for it is the other annoying part, as alluded to. Once both Warlock spell slots are out and done with, there goes the Eldritch Smite. Can't use it anymore. That's worse than critical fishing with a regular smite.

So, the mod you found, is different from the one on the Nexus. On this one, as you can see, you can use a spell slot to deal more damage with it, it's not dependent on your crits.

Maybe try reading what I wrote again.

The mod I used your options are to 1) have it on, or 2) proc on crits.

And in the mod they're toggleable passives, you can't have the game ask you if you'd like to use Eldritch Smite on this hit or not like you can do with Paladin Smites.

From the looks of it, I'm not entirely convinced that that isn't the same Hexblade mod, by the way...

The one on Mod Manager is the one on Nexus that someone else ported because the mod author of the one on Nexus has not updated it in over a year.

There's two versions at mod.io.
"Hexblade Subclass for Warlock" by "LockStockRocket" and
"HexbladeWarlock" by "Xaszizal"

LSR's is the port of the one from Nexus, and the one I've been using, as that one includes most (though not all) of the new Warlock Invocations the Nexus original came with, like Eldritch Smite, Relentless Hex, et.

I like it. Hexblade + Pact of the Blade + Unholy Smite etc. ... makes for an interesting combo meal and a interesting 'darker' gish variant.

I suspect, as I've said, Larian may add a bit of homebrew flavor to all of these. It looks like they are definitely doing it with Swarmkeeper and Drunken Master. So I'm interested in what they'll do with Hexblade, and also Swashbuckler.

Hopefully their version of Circle of Stars will actually f**king work.

Hexblade was a really popular subclass for warlocks in 5e because it got the ability to use CHA as the weapon attribute. Of course, 2024 D&D (and BG3) gave that to all PotB warlocks, so the main advantage of Hexblade was lost.

We'll see if Larian's Hexblade is just another flavor of warlock or if it grants something for melee that other PotB warlocks don't get.

Patch 8 is supposed to be in January so it's not that far off to just wait for the official subclass, with a Larian twist to it most likely.

Patch 8 Stress Test is supposed to come in January. Presumably Patch 8 as a final release will come later in 2025.
