the heat stuff is just a mess. even a tiefling does not resist the fire damage, and it just feels like a bad option.
Cold is nice. But by the time something is frozen, its probably so close to death to make that less effective than it should have been.
there are a LOT of radiant items that also could play with a monk's level 6 ability. This would probably be far better than the lightning charges.
necrotic might make a nice try too... the aoe necro mace comes to mind.
It feels a lot like they had this stuff in the engine already, so they just decided to add it to the game.
There are boots to keep you from falling on your arse.
Also advantage against anyone in metal armour or made of metal while you have Lightning Charges, which is most of the time. Combo your nearly eternal advantage with some crit chance increasing stuff and you become a crit factory.
Sorry I meant in general. Boots of not-fall-on-your-ass are must-have for a main melee though.
There is the Radiant build that turns any Cleric into a tanky annoying (for the enemy) light show, and god forbid its a Light Domain Cleric that really can abuse the Radiant Shockwave gear.
Multiple builds revolve around Reverberation. There is a Wildheart Barbarian build that keeps enemies permanently knocked Prone through Reverberation.
You can get some stupid crowd control setups by using a Longbow + Arrow of Many Targets on any of your Spellcasters after re-specializing them to have 16 Dex as a part of their build. Folks normally pair this with a Bard because of the Scoundrel Ring you get in Act 3 that allows you to cast Illusion or Enchantment Spells as Bonus action which pairs well with Acuity.
Hat of Fire Acuity, same deal as the Helm but when you deal fire damage. You get it from the Strange Ox in Act 2 or 3 if you kill it. There is a way to get it without killing the Ox though.
