Character creation

Hi ,I just bought the game and I was just wondering as I am creating my character,does it have to be a lizardman or is there a option to select a different race as I can not seem to see it,if it does exist.i just don’t want to be 20 hours into the game and find out i did have that option

Yes, there is. You probably selected Dark Urge origin and it changed to a lizard but you can change that back. Default character and Dark Urge origin can be customized, the other origins like Astarion can't.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean, but I will try to answer.

You can create a Custom Character or an Origin character. The only Origin character that is a "lizardman" is The Dark Urge. The Dark Urge also happens to be the only Origin character whose race you can change; check the list over on the left side of the screen, look for Race/Dragonborn.

If you want to make a fully custom character, select the icon that looks like a bald man's silhouette at the top of the character selection panel, and then follow the list on the left to make your choices.

The ONLY difference between The Dark Urge and fully custom character is that the Dark Urge comes with a pre-made backstory and questline that unfolds over the course of the game.

there are a bunch of different race options, they're quite easy to see unless something is wrong with your game in that case post a screenshot

Ok thanks,it is just more than likely me then as at 64 ,sometimes it takes me abit to spot the obvious especially with technology as I have only started gaming in recent years..i will figure it out tomorrow with a more in-depth check.i just didn’t want to invest 20 hours into the game and then discover I had that option.that would have really been annoying

there are lots of options at creation.
not only do you have 10 or so races (I don't recall exact count) but many of the races have 'sub races' like a shield dwarf or a drow half-elf etc. The race itself has bonuses and the subraces usually do too. The "spell like abilities" (spells the race can cast usually 1 time a day as a feature of their race) are NOT fully shown, only the starting ones -- races that have these will have additional ones at higher levels (gith, drow, dark dwarf, tieflings etc have these).

gender is probably the hardest to figure out: the body type in the lower corner has a "with boobs" masculineish and a "without boobs" feminish model while you can also pick your private parts & pronouns to fully define your physical and identity sexuality. You can take your clothing off if you want to try out all the privates.

Past that the rest is pretty standard hair style & color, eyes, face/skin color type stuff.

Thanks everyone for the help,I have just started the game as a dark elf named Drizzit which was a character from a series of novels which got me started into the whole fantasy and science fiction genre.feel totally foolish when I finally figured it out but just thought I give ye a quick update.thanks again.

My dear Gentleman; if you are interested down the road, there are mods that add Icy Death and Twinkle for Scimitars as well as a Panther Statue that summons Guenhwyvar. I am not sure if they were ever added to the mod.io, only know of them from nexusmods.

Kind of off-topic; the fact you made Drizzt in this game is hilarious because Drizzt is canonically a short king. The man is like 5'5" yet the standard male body in BG3 is easily 5'10".
