First time playing and discovered the real time combat
I confess that the only turn-based game that really grabbed me was Pokemon, otherwise I gave up on playing it.
But I gave this game a chance, I played completely blind following the quests in the diary that appeared during my journey and I finished the game helping the Emperor instead of Orpheus. I liked it in general, but I mentioned it to a friend who was playing, he gave me a MOD called Brawl for real time combat, which makes the game similar to games like Pathfinder, BG1 and 2, among others from the infinity engine. I tested it and found it a thousand times better than playing in turns, honestly if I had known about its existence before I would have played it from start to finish just with this MOD, I can't enjoy combat only in turns, I don't like it, in REAL TIME COMBAT with Pause, now it becomes more fun and dynamic and more enjoyable for me. Would it be too much to ask for Larian to release this mode, since the MOD is super simple and it wouldn't be a problem for them to implement?

I'd be very surprised if they release a real time with pause mode, but this is what is so great about mods! I don't know if the mod you are speaking about requires it, but if you install Baldur's Gate 3 Script Extender you can even get achievements with it enabled!

I'm sure the mod creator and Larian really and truly appreciate how you claim their hard work was so super simple that you didn't do it yourself even though there are still issues in the most recent mod version that Larian would still have to fix before they could even release it.

Congratulations, Ms genius. Comparing a single MOD creator with a developer with more than 450 employees and people involved in the project is by far stupid.

I will install it for the next playthrough

"The choices that we made are ours. Why did we go for turn-based instead of real-time with pause? Because D&D to us is a turn-based game and we’re really good – or we have become really good – with turn-based combat. So that, I think, is one of our strengths, and trying out real-time with pause for now, just because the originals were that? It’s a big risk. Because the team would have to think completely differently, our combat would be completely different. And we didn’t really feel good about that. Normally we do try out a lot. Normally we try out a lot before we make a decision, but with real-time with pause and turn-based we didn’t, we just said “Okay it’s just gonna be turn-based.”

wouldn't pause it also make it turn base? you choose gale using fire ball pause, chose shadow heart using bless pause. feels like the same in a way ? i mean you have to pause it to do any actions or else you are in a big disadvantage, only works not pausing on weak foes.. so its almost like you playing with turns , but maybe that s just me.

The feeling of fluidity, at least for me, is completely different, and whether or not you want to pause all the time like in Pathfinder, POE etc. is not the problem, what bothers me about the turn-only part is the delay/cooling after each turn ends, And as I said, it would only be real time with pause, just so you can choose what to do and not completely real time, that didn't even cross my mind.

Looks like it is still in beta.

https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/12614

Looks like it requires script extender, so I couldn't even use it if I wanted to (and from the demo I saw .... I don't.) Looks chaotic AF.

From those videos, it looks like it works by mostly putting both your companions and your enemies under AI control. It also has an apparently Fully Automated mode, in which you can basically watch the game play itself.

Yeah, not interested.

These kinds of systems work by putting the companions you aren't presently controlling under AI control. So you don't need to do quite so much pausing.

real time combat is horrible.
Heu, Iterum Id Feci Dec 20, 2024 @ 11:15am
I mean...good for them...but noticably it does give companions AI so it stays playable...in essence it tkes away loads and loads of decisions the players would normally have to make, and still in the demos he's pausing like crazy...
If you think this is better gameplay....okay, whatever, you do you, I'll stick to TB and play the game myself instead of letting the computer play the game for me...

Personally, I'd just play a game with a ruleset designed around real-time combat if I wanted that. But, hey, do what you like.
