Can you get the [spoiler] ending as another character?

The footage I've seen of God Gale's ending suggests that he uses the Netherbrain to ascend to the God of Ambition

But is it possible to get an ending where he Ascends if you aren't playing as him? I ask because I'd like to be able to request that he Cure Karlach and Astarion without playing as him.

Especially if playing as Karlach it would be nice to be able to call in a favor.

Gale only can "cure" Karlach if she is romancing him, and he Ascends her into Godhood, and he does not "cure" Astarion ever. Astarion is always a Vampire Spawn or he completes the ritual.

But, yes, you can have Gale Ascend without playing as him.

You can ascend even without claiming the netherbrain. Just choose god of ambition when you face mystra questioning you about Karsus's legacy.

Do you have to be playing as Gale to get him to ascend?

Yes, Gale can ascend to godhood if you are not playing as Origin Gale.

But no, if he ascends to godhood he can not cure anyone of illithidness.

I was hoping he could do something about Karlach's engine or Astarian's weakness to sunlight.

I have heard that he actually straight-up tells Astarion, "No, I won't cure you." As in, he could, but he won't.

Gale god is a massive jerk, actually.

What about Karlach, surely Gale wouldn't be THAT big of a jerk to someone who's life is on the line if she doesn't return to the avernus.

Astarion I can get because he's a predator... Actually come to think of it Gale's first magic lesson in camp took a predatory turn... OH MY GOD GALE!

Karlach dies before Gale can ascend.

Regarding Gale and Astarion. If i recall it correctly - Gale refuses to cure Astarion if he ascends to become the god of ambition, citing that he already have vampire worshippers and doesnt want to be seen as anti-vampire.

However, the player can romance Gale. And if nudged to become the god of ambition, Gale offers to ascend you to become a god as well. And you can leave the mortal world behind with him.
