Draconic Bloodline (blue) vs Storm Sorcerer (lightning charge build)
So, having played through the early access for a little while now, I've been picking up several items that greatly support a lightning damage based build through Lightning Charges. And it seems like you can get a full set of lightning charge armor in act 1, including a weapon and even an amulet that gives you a unique lightning cantrip.

This got me thinking of a Tempest Cleric/Sorc multiclass build, since it sounds extremely powerful if you put it all together, making use of the level 6 features of both classes. But which is better?

Worth noting is that there is both a medium armor and clothing chest piece that provides lightning charge bonuses, so it's possible to build this while still using the inherent draconic armor class.

Storm Sorcerer bonuses:

1. Tempestuous Magic: Starting at 1st level, you can use a bonus action on your turn to cause whirling gusts of elemental air to briefly surround you, immediately before or after you cast a spell of 1st level or higher. Doing so allows you to fly up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks.
2. At 6th level, you gain resistance to lightning and thunder damage. In addition, whenever you start casting a spell of 1st level or higher that deals lightning or thunder damage, stormy magic erupts from you. This eruption causes creatures of your choice that you can see within 10 feet of you to take lightning or thunder damage (choose each time this ability activates) equal to half your sorcerer level.

Draconic Bloodline (Blue) bonuses:

1. Draconic Resilience: Your maximum Hit Points increase by 1 for each Sorcerer level. Dragon-like scales cover parts of your skin. When you aren't wearing armour, your Base Armour Class increased by 3.
2. Learn Witch Bolt.
3. Draconic Ancestry (Lightning): Lightning is the damage type associated with your dragon ancestor. At 6th level, spells that deal Lightning damage are more powerful, and you can become resistant to Lightning Damage.

So the Storm Sorc provides a bonus movement flight action, increases both lightning and thunder resistance, and get additional lightning projectiles when you use lightning or thunder spells.

And the Draconic Sorc only boosts lightning resist, but gets more HP and an inherent armor class bonus, gets the Witch Bolt spell for free, and gets an overall damage increase to any lightning damage done.

Depends are you going as far as lvl 6 in Sorc?

Blue dragon
3 AC is useless as you will be wearing armour.
Witch bolt, can be gotten as a sorc anyhow, if I remember and brakes concentration again if I recall
Lvl 6 is solid

Storm Sorc
Levitate does not give opportunity attacks, great escape ability.
If you are going to lvl 6, resistance is good
And additional dmg is welcomed, but tiny and short range.

Hard choice, both are underwhelming really. Levitate just pips ot for me, as a solid defensive addition but depends on how the above rules are impliemented and the resistance if you choose to go lvl 6 sorc.

Sounds as if I am saying sorc is underwhelming, I am not the subclasses all seem crap to me but the base class is so good that crap subclass features create some balance.

If you had no subclass in this build you'd be missing out on very little.

I mentioned it up above, but there are two chest pieces that give lightning charges. One medium and one clothing. The clothing one gives +1 AC as part of it's charged bonus, so it would be +4 as a draconic sorc.

I’m planning on doing something similar. I hate I’ll have to skip on most of the lightning themed loot to experience a different path to Moonrise on my first real play through. Maybe there will be some other lightning charge weapons on the other paths.

Are you forced to commit to one route to moonrise the whole way? You could go in for the loot and try back tracking out and going another way.
