Polymorph Yes or no?

So can your sorcerer/mage avatar polymorph into Dragons etc.? Or is it only possible that druids shapeshift?

And can you become a vampire like astarion?

Vampire is kinda official from the panel to hell.
But from the classes we know ... only druids can shapeshift to animals.
Other mages / clerics (Shadow) can use transform magic to hide their real form -> shapeshift to another race.

You can shapeshit but not into a dragon and you can become a vampire

There's are spells for that, but unlikely dragons would be an option due to the requirements.

Vampires were hinted, but can't recall if there's a definitive answer yet.

I thought Polymorph actually turned people into stupid animals whereas shapechanging means you keep your actual brain/mind/int score.

Possible, but not its only use. With the Polymorph spell specifically, it turns them into a creature with a CR equal or lower to the target (or level if they don't have CR), they get the stats and mental ability of that creature.

Shapechange keeps your 'brain' stats, yes.
