I mean, not really. Clerics have more spell power, while Paladins have more melee power. If your party doesn't have to much in the way of melee power, you probably want a paladin. If you've already got a barbarian and a fighter, a cleric is probably better. Party configuration matters alot in these things.
In general, I think Cleric is more versatile and utilitarian for a party, while a paladins role can sort of be filled by other melee classes.

I think the whole Oath thing is kinda nerdy too
The only one I like is Oath of Vengeance- I could get on board with that

Clerics are cool too since they follow actual Deities which can fall anywhere on the alignment chart

There aren't really as comparable as there are in some other games since Paladins don't get their spellcasting powers from a god (which explains why they have fewer spells/spell slots)

I want to love Paladin, I really do. But I just can't stand how all their spells are useless. The coolest thing they had was find steed, find greater steed, and some smite spells. But divine smite is the only smite you need and it wont waste your bonus action, and theres no steeds in BG3. Paladin is great for a 1 level dip for every class but having almost no ranged options other than a bow and getting little to no magic is such a deal breaker for me.

Blackguard would be awesome for the Dark Urge, but I don't think it's in the game (likely will get modded in though).

I kinda lean towards Cleric > Paladin.

A lot of classes can fill that Paladin ‘tanky front liner melee single target burst’ role - I.e. Barbarians, Fighters…

No one can do cleric things. It’s a 100% unique class with THICC healing and they’re like the ONLY big papi divine caster.

What really makes the Paladin special for me is its charisma attribute. It may be not as good as a fighter or barbarian, but it's pretty good in combat and you can use your character for charisma checks, which is pretty important considering that the dialogue is as important, if not more, than combat.

Kinda the opposite, you weren't cool enough to uphold your oath lol. We need actual evil paladin subclasses with evil oaths.
