Yeah, and the game isn't even out yet. "Set the bar" for what? Managing a demo for 3 years?
Reusing the majority
of assests from your old game to build another game that's not even your IP and still take 6+ years to develop?
Its like people desperately need BG3 to fill some void, its just a game, starting to get really awkward.
If that was the case, why'd you think diablo devs are saying they don't want to be held to the same standard?

If y'all cant see what makes this game special, either you got hit by blindness/deafness or feeblemind :)
If you are so special that can see things unavailable to mortal beings, then prove it by writing your points on the "new" standard in the text form.

So, what kind of bar is that? Dialogues with choices and consequences are not new. Operating enviromental objects is not new.

You must be speaking exclusively about affair with the bear?

Other game developers are saying BG3 will be an anomaly and not to hold them to the same standards. Probably means you are the one who is the ignorant one in this particular situation.

So, like Dragon Age? Like Mass Effect?

Actually SEETHING and MALDING
"Don't hold us to the same standard because there's no way we can ever be as good as Larian."
- Blizzard. Literally what they said if you read between the lines.

If you can't explain what it is that makes it so special, maybe just maybe its superficial?

Yes on a bigger scale and more variety in options and consequences from what we know.

Such a simple thing wish the developers of other games weren't freaking out about it and say its easy and can be done by them. Like some in these comments are saying.

That's not what they're saying, if you actually read the twitter thread about tge whole situation, i stead of the 5min video about the guy picking things he wants out of context, you would know it actually has merit and explains the current state of general game development where yes, Larian being such a massive private developer is an anomaly.

So yeah what's so special about that? Just repeating past successes on a larger scale?

Well, Owlcat did it on quite big scale for 2 games already. Both Pathfinders are very long for modern standards. I wouldn't be surprised if Pathfinders would still be longer than BG3 after release.

I watched the video by one of the developers on twitter he did mention the risks involved and that Larian itself might not be able to keep improving on it in future games. I agree with him but that doesn't mean that most games released nowadays don't seem to have a soul to them filled with bugs and microtransactions to make a quick buck.

The current game market is trying to abuse its customer base and I'm honestly tired of it.

Yes, on a grander scale which others in the industry see as an anomaly. Instead of what they should be working towards.

There is nothing special about this game. Nothing innovative, nothing new, nothing bar setting, but what there Is in this game, is a high degree of quality. The kind of quality that comes with taking one's time and doing the best job that one(s) can do.

Quality is the bar, not some new mechanic that hasn't been seen before.

The AAA market is not entire "current game market", in fact it is quite small, even if popular, part of it.

Indies and B tier games like THQ Nordic are fine.

Agreed, I play more AA and indie games now. Honestly tired of all the AAA crap and all the drama that goes on in those studios.
