If you multiclass Paladin with Warlock and then get Pact of The Blade, can you respec and ditch Str?

Also how many levels in each class for the perfect combo?

I want to make Paladin Oath of The Ancients multiclassed with Warlock Pact of The Blade.

I hope they do something with Pact of the Tomb as it is awful vs Chain and Blade.

To be fair if they did not at least do the Chr almost no one would choose Pact of the Blade - by itself it is utterly useless.

The main reason to go paladin/warlock is for hexblade imo. Otherwise you miss out on improved smite at 11 (if it's in). Not worth the trade for me.

Despite its name, Improved Divine smite only adds an extra D8 of radiant damage on your attacks.

Not really something that i would care much about unless you're very under performing damage wise.

Last I checked, Chain is significantly stronger than it is in tabletop, too. A free-roaming familiar as a battle pet is a lot stronger than the bonus action-dependent invocation-taxing tabletop equivalent.

I expect Tome will also fold in some invocations, such as Book of Ancient Secrets, in order to compete better.

Pact of the Blade apparently contains most of that, keeping the functionality in for Warlocks but not for everyone who wants to completely alter their character with a single level dip.

According to Larian, you absolutely can respec at any point once you unlock a certain boney boi in Act 1.

9/3 would be the ideal 12 lvl split. you end up with 4/5/2 spell slots and 2 of 2nd lvl recharge on short rest. Best daily smite dump build possible.

Yes you can ditch Str to 15 for Heavy Armor (unless this prereq isn't in game, idk) or you will want 14 Dex for Medium Armor.

Weapon wise you could use just about any melee in the build, 1H and shield for more defense, 2h for more dmg (maybe with GWM), and agonizing Eldritch blast gives you a great ranged option for when you can't melee.

You'd be giving up Improved Smite (1d8 per weapon attack), an ASI, and Frightened immunity for the 3 levels of warlock.

The Warlock dip is a much more versatile build and can smite more freely. You'd want to take warlock levels either 2paladin 3 warlock (order doesn't really matter) or wait til 5 or 6 paladin to start Warlock levels if you want Extra Attack and Saving Throw Aura respectively.

Also, make sure level 1 is Paladin so you can use heavy armor.

Honestly idk if you even need a respec. Go Paladin to 5 for extra attack, then take 3 of warlock. Then go Paladin until total level is 11 (Pala 8), last level warlock.

Edit: nvm you’ll respec when you have lock 3 to ditch Str.

To not delay asi much maybe Pala 5, lock 3, Respec (still 5/3 just drop Str to 10 or 12), then lock 4, then all Pala from there

5th level of warlock with pact of the blade gives you yet another additional attack, its way stronger than the feat you'd gain.
