AC 21
Divine Smite
thats really it. For Paladin to be the best it has to multiclass into a full caster so it can get more spell slots to make divine smite more powerful.
once you get the flametongue greatsword, you can drop your shield and still have AC19 or keep shield of faith up for AC 21 still. Then you make two attacks per round at 4d6+2d8 (first level spell slot divine smite). You can do two attacks per round, so, if you do that in the same turn, you roll 8d6+4d8, just for melee attack. And if any of that crits the enemy is basically dead.
Because of how powerful that is, and since its pretty much guaranteed damage, its the best. If you multiclass into something with Fireball that also makes you the best at facing multiple enemies. So you can really do it all.
Just keep in mind whenever someone says something is "The best" they are talking about damage wise, no one actually considers the other 2/3rds of the game (the non combat part of the game).
Unless something changes at release.
Depends on oath. Vengeance should be able to merk them with impunity.
That's why you toggle non-leathal damage on? Doesn't change how much damage you do just knocks ppl out instead of killing.
Then when combat is over use another character to kill them.
I am only going by what was reported in videos or forums, but it sounded like even with knockouts on, attacking/engaging before the combat trigger can cause an issue for pallies. Have you played one in EA?
No one has played a vengeance paladin yet. That's what my hopes are resting on.
Also, I don't think being an oathbreaker is much of a problem, but we will see.
Actually, Vengeance and Ancients are pretty good.
Yea I played one all through the EA. Its my favorite dnd class, my paladin literally never broke his vow after I toggled on non-lethal dmg.
Paladins in 5e don't get their powers from a God. They get it from the oath they swore.
Your pally can still worship a God however that has nothing to do with your abilities/spells.
Anything else is just sadness
