Paladin and cleric in same group?
Do you think having a Paladin and Cleric life or light in the same group is too much support?

no, paladin casts bless while cleric keeps spirit guardians up

Oh not at all. An all paladin party is a very viable comp, paladin and cleric are both just very, very good classes that fit in any comp.

No they are both amazing classes - you could get away with 4 Clerics or 4 Paladins and you'd be fine.

Doesn't matter.

You're going to need a heavy armour class, regardless of whether it's a Fighter or Paladin.

If the Cleric is healing, great.

The Paladin won't be running around healing everyone.

Paladin is probably one of the more flexible classes, unironically I'd say. If you need a tank, they got your back. Wanna do some good damage, you got Divine Smites for that. With Lay On Hands being entirely separate from spells, you also have a decent emergency medic. Plus, they also get access to Revivify, so pairing them with a Cleric means double sustainability.

The main deal is what subclasses both are gonna be, as I don't know what your party comp will look like.

Any party composition is viable, as long as it fits your needs. You could have 4 clerics or 4 paladins, it would work just fine.

That would suck, gameplay wise.

You're passing up on a lot of exploration events that other classes would be better at.

As a joke playthrough, sure, but it would be silly.

And limiting.

Honestly, a party that has both Cleric and Paladin is really strong. Thrown in maybe a Lore bard and a Wizard and you are set. You could change Lore bard for a Ranger if you want more ranged DPS.

They're only "support" classes partly. Both paladin and cleric are also capable of dealing very heavy damage.

Paladin is one of the best damage dealers in the game with smite for example.

If you're going up against undead or fiends ... yeah ... good to have both in your party.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
