No they are both amazing classes - you could get away with 4 Clerics or 4 Paladins and you'd be fine.
You're going to need a heavy armour class, regardless of whether it's a Fighter or Paladin.
If the Cleric is healing, great.
The Paladin won't be running around healing everyone.
The main deal is what subclasses both are gonna be, as I don't know what your party comp will look like.
That would suck, gameplay wise.
You're passing up on a lot of exploration events that other classes would be better at.
As a joke playthrough, sure, but it would be silly.
And limiting.

Paladin is one of the best damage dealers in the game with smite for example.
