Why?

Because the dodge action is readying an action to pick its nose and the ready action is trying to dodge the gooey projectile.

No, Dodge gives attackers a Disadvantage when attacking you on their turn and Ready could be implemented as an overwatch feature.

Here is the quotation from the Player Handbook of 5e rules:
"When you take the Dodge action, you focus entirely on avoiding attacks. Until the start of your next turn, any attack roll made against you has disadvantage if you can see the attacker, and you make Dexterity saving throws with advantage. You lose this benefit if you are incapacitated or if your speed drops to 0."

It's odd, yes. Guard and Delay have been commands in RPGs for decades.

I just don't understand and is beyond me why they don't implement it. It would enrich and complement the combat system.

Ready action would be cool, but I couldn't give 2 ♥♥♥♥♥ about dodge.

Yeah, I dunno. Maybe it will be there in the final release. I remember somebody pointed out they changed stealth from a bonus action to a standard action in the UI of the final build they played in the panel. So there's at least some changes to the actions.

After all, flowing dodge is a monk feature. So surely they've added it, right?

Well if you play tactically Dodge is one of the essential features of a DnD game.

I know how they work. I think the joke clearly went over your head.

Because this game isn't Solasta and doesn't have those features. Different games may choose to do combat and mechanics in a different manner.
Even if it's something that's in the book, not every video game needs to be a carbon copy of the others. No DnD game has ever 100% copied the mechanics of table top.

I get that, but BG3 copies the 5e ruleset quite well, so I must say I am quite surprised that they implement it halfway.

Why I say halfway is because there is an already working Advantage and Disadvantage mechanism in the game already. So implementing the Dodge action is no additional work. It is on purpose. Why? I can't fandom the answer, since for me this would enrich the combat system.

I just picked this up today and was surprised to see these are missing. My only disappointment so far and I'm in about 3.5 hours.

I hope they have it in the final release. They are important tactical choices.

+1 on waiting for rules fidelity

Yeah makes no sense to not include it.
Instead of the silly stuff they put in like the charges you can build up with some gear and other stuff on gear that triggers on certain actions.
