This was a concern my friend brought up to me from the early access. Mages, or anybody that casts limited spells for that matter, are being encouraged to NOT use anything in fights in fear that they might be completely utterly useless afterwards is a terrible system. If they don't make restoring spell slots easier a lot of people are just going to never use magic because of the added tedium.
Well in the tabletop you can have a short rest always between play sessions which is about after each battle in general with this being a computer game they have limited those to 2 before long rest, in TT long rest is a rare story moving element that happens or is needed ideally only after several play sessions.
I think game has struck pretty good balance with pacing of the two compared to TT I mean old BG's and IWD's you hit that rest all the time each time sucking 8 hours often right next to horde of enemies and if that wasn't silly I dunno what is though you had that silly ambush thing going which was more of a "hey guys, let's see how much you care to save scum!" then a real challenge.
People don't feel playing magic user if magic is weak and very limited, end up play crossbow most of time to avoid long rest, and worried if long rest too much might mess up time quest, so go on, Skyrim even magic isn't not that powerful in high level but got a right idea, you don't had to use any weapon other than magic as mana allowed and do regen itself, just like fighter/archer had stamma.
People had difference idea, DND mostly favor physical weapon over magic, in matter of fact. you can swing sword or archer unlimited and had higher damage than magic normal use (captip) at least in the pc game, I'm not sure about tablet game, but I assumed it's same thing due rule unless I'm wrong and tablet game do had very powerful and useful magic more than PC game?
Can some DnD guy tell me how is the resting explained? The BG1&2 that you need to "memorize" it sounds silly to me. I still love all the games, but the Idea that Legolas, Gandalf and Gimli need to set camp after beating 10 goblins because Gandalf used up all his Magic Missles and now needs to read a book so he can remember how to do it again is.... not ok. I hated going through the dungeon in 1&2 and going to sleep 3 times because I sucked and used up all the spells. Still great games I feel stupid complaining about them at all
