As for it 'coming to steam' (I assume you mean the ingame mod manager?) who knows. Only the author knows if he intents to do that or not.
You might also be referring to Forsaken, which replaces the standard BG3 campaign with a campaign set in WoW's universe in the realm of Tirisfal Glades. That was just released at Nexus, but only the "teaser" starter level is available at this point. Since it's pretty much in alpha, I have not tried it out, either. I'm also not crazy about the fact that it has no companions (either from the main campaign, or any at all) and is thus hireling-only. But I'd consider it (I am a WoW player) as it develops more.
Frankly, I have more interest in stuff that ADDS to the existing campaign (like Spelljammer 5E) rather than stuff that replaces it. The Forsaken author appears to be working on a Act 2 expansion, I'm more interested in that.
This mod wouldn't be possible without Norbyte's Script Extender.
