Unless you are using mods. Which I don't use any. If you are, then your save games may have conflicts.
Would recommend either starting a new game on the new patch or keeping your game on the current version until you've finished that playthrough.
"Q: Will my save games from the stress test work with Patch 8? A: We cannot guarantee that save games created during the stress test will remain compatible with the actual patch 8 release."
*Also War of the Roses is back
That is referring to the player's save games they have made during the stress test. I would be very surprised if patch 8 has any impact on saves made with the current version of the game. Unless as I stated above, you are using mods.
I have never had a single issues with my saves working with any of the patches they have released. The Release version of the game I mean. During early access, yeah.
Sure, but we don't know if the OP is playing the stress test version or not.
---
I've never had any of my un-modded release saves not work, but I have run into the occasional bug and things from newer patches being missing from existing runs.
Easily avoided though.
Unless you're using mods that aren't updated, you'll be fine.

But if you have mods. Ends the game before the update!
A vanilla game should be fine I imagine.
Outside of major updates or when games are in/coming out of Early Access, I have never heard of saves being wiped from a patch. It'd just be a bad experience for the players and by extension for the company doing it.
I really grinded through Act 1 and tried not to miss any spot on the map! I'm about 180 hours in and at the beginning of Act 2. lol X) I'm very very concerned about losing my modded saves.
Is there a way to work around it? Somehow not updating the game? O.< mah brain hurts!
You use mods at your own risk. Updates don't always cause conflicts with mods. Depends which ones they are. But if you have issues, you will know why.
