If you what to play an additional race you are going have to use mods.
If the custom races only differed in appearance but not in custom abilities, I'd have zero interest in them at all.
But that said, as far as story/dialogue interactions, yeah, all the custom races are either tagged with an existing racial tag (like Cambion is coded as "Tiefling") or not at all. Nobody is going to meet your Aasimar and comment on, "whoa! you're an Aasimar!" etc.
I doubt Larian will add any more to the game. But specifically, there most DEFINITELY is an Aasimar race mod at mod.io. I've used it. Both to make an Aasimar Tav, and to make Aasimar companions (the latter thing requires use of Custom Companions Lite.)
