But at least that didn't happen.
We examined the area first, then cast haste, split up and ran in different directions. Having a barbarian with haste and momentum he could cover a lot of distance per turn. I thought it was really cool because it came down to the wire, I pulled Omelum out of the chair last round, thinking there's no way we can make it, then seeing his teleport ability and we both cheered, it was pretty great.
I don't bother trying to loot the path that has no prisoners.
Split up your characters, I teleport and use potions to get to Omellum as fast as possible as he can teleport himself and a nearby ally back to the sub and still rejoin the fight and then teleport another.
Shoot levers on the wall to save movement when unlocking prison cells.
Use speed potions/misty step scrolls if you need more movement.
Cast sanctuary on Ravengard yourself or Mizora will do it for you. You can unensnare allies by standing next to them and using "Help."
Dash and Misty Step are very helpful, a wizard can take down opponents with magic missiles or slow them down, Shadowheart can cause a lot of damage with Spirt Guardians, and I bet Hunger of Hadar will be fun to use in that setting, too.
I didn't manage to save all prisoners, and since I didn't run into Omeluum on my first playthrough, I didn't know he was there. Probably wouldn't have saved him either, because he would've been just another mindflayer to my party.
Point is, it is doable, and that's coming from someone who has never played a turn-based CRPG with multiple playable characters before.
Again, I'll give my 2c on the key objectives for Iron Throne.
IMHO: the main one is rescuing Duke Ravengard. IF he's there. Always is in my playthroughs. BTW, I did blow rescuing him one time, and if you're curious, because I was, I considered doing a redo but that one time I said lemme see what happens. All I will say is I wondered how bad an ending Wyll gets if his pop dies, and it's not as bad as I thought. I'll leave it at that. Still, I view him as the main objective. Make sure to heal him up as he comes out of his cell, prevent Mizzy's spiders from roasting him, and remember that Dimension Door can take your party member and him a nice long way. Arcane Gate is nice, but the range on it sucks.
The secondary one is rescuing Omeluum. IF he's there, again. (Usually is for me.) But from a practical standpoint, while it earns you XP and rewards from Soc of Brilliance for rescuing him ... I guess it's not "essential". But probably the 2nd most important objective. All you need to is reach Omeluum with one person in stealth (for me it's Astarion). Once they free him, Om can teleport himself and that person to the sub.
Tertiary is rescuing the Gondians. Should you try and save them all? Personally I always save SOME. But it's kinda like they say in the Avengers, "You can't save them all," and I never try to save them all. YMMV. It is probably the most heroic thing to try and rescue them all, but in case you're curious, it is NOT necessary to save ALL of them in the prison OR in the Foundry to get the endgame benefit of Save the Gondians. There probably is some % threshold you must rescue, but I dunno EXACTLY what it is, I just know I have hit it in the past, and gotten the Gondian's "gift" for the endgame (an allied Steel Watcher, though I never use it.) I mostly release all the ones I can on the way to Duke or Om.
I think the main one to get out of there is Ofelia Toobin, Zoomin Toobin's daughter, as she has a quest for you. But she's not even in a cell, she's already free when you get there.
Last but not least, in case you're curious, only one party member MUST make it back on the sub before time runs out to complete the quest, and it doesn't need to be Tav. Anybody who doesn't make it back to the sub dies in the explosion. But fear not, your main man Withers can rez them all.
Final tip: that door to where the Sahuagin keep spawning from and coming into the main chamber and being annoying pieces of crap for throwing nets on the Gondians, the Duke, or you? Shut it by hitting the mechanism that controls the door with an arrow. (You can smash it with a mace, but then the one who does it will be stuck on that side of the door with the Sahuagin. Now if you're intending to sacrifice that person - or maybe it's just a summon - that's also a valid tactic.)
The # of turns you have to rescue what you want to and get back to the sub is based on the game's difficulty setting. I believe in Explorer it's 8 turns. Now depending on your starting difficulty, you may not want to or be able to do this, but, for example, if you're playing Tactician, don't feel like you can't change your game's setting to Explorer ONLY for the Iron Throne, which will then give you 8 turns to complete it.
Send your strongest character to Ravenguard - pref a fighter - who can shoot the two levers and attack the two fish people (action surge). When in control of Ravenguard, use a strong healing potion before moving.
Send the second character towards the room with the gondian in the chair. Free her from the chair, shoot the lever, move towards Ommeleum.
Send your 3rd and 4th character to the final room with gondians in it. Ignore the two enemies at first, shoot both levers. Use your second character to attack.
Use summons. They can do the middle part, killing the lone enemy and attacking both levers to open them. That way at the end of turn one everyone - except O - should be free.
New enemies should only spawn in the room that had the gondian tied to the chair near Omelleum, so keep some character there to cover the retreat. The character that frees Ommeleum can teleport with him. Start falling back and don't block the gondians or they stop moving. Easy as pie.
Why is the OP having a nuclear response? It doesn't seem healthy.
Take a break from any game that's having that effect. Ranting here will only get comments that you're doing it wrong and how things worked for other people but not how it might work for you.
Ok. I'm excepting if all party members die when the Iron Throne explodes because none have gotten back to the sub ... that I believe is Game Over.
But, of course, hopefully you have an earlier save.
