If you make Astarion walk up to Raph in last light and initiate the conversation, he will lead the conversation and you can get the prompt to ask about the scars.
But at the mausoleum, the game automatically forces TAV into the conversation lead, and Raph won't talk about the scars.
However ... If you keep the rest of the party out of sight -- far out of sight -- and send Astarion to talk to Raph by himself, then Raph will tell him about the deal to kill his enemy in exchange for information about the scars.
Appearantly they had a chat during the long rest so I guess its fine? But kinda stupid that the game forces you to tav when reaching the mausoleum.
But the result of helping him or not leads to the same outcome anyway, he still shows up in the house of hope and Raphael gets his way anyway.
So eh.
Found it rather stupid that some aspects of the game are very much railroaded. My 2nd playthrough I was like, lets deal with the devil to get rid of the tadpole in act 1; ooops, he just blows me off cuz he cannot even remove the tadpole! Stupid...
