1.) Make sure you have installed the game properly, to a non-system folder. (No, really, you'd be INCREDIBLY surprised how often THIS step gets borked)
2.) Make sure you have appropriate access to the install, and Steam itself (if on Windows, make sure you have Admin privileges. Make sure nothing's read-only. etc)
3.) Make sure this install is VANILLA as possible, UPDATED COMPLETELY, with ZERO mods. (Depending on the game, you might NOT want it to update, like for example Skyrim routinely FUBAR's itself when it updates because Bugthesda - but it's still a good general practice even if specific context might call for deviations)
4.) BACK UP THE INSTALL and make sure this install is UPDATED when the base game updates (this is tough with BG3 since the game's like 150 gigs, but I'm mentioning it here for posterity)
5.) Install ONE MOD AT A TIME. (literally)
6.) TEST THE GAME to make sure it works.
7.) Repeat steps 5 + 6 until all mods are installed and game works.
8.) IF the game you're playing gets updated regularly (BG3) or is maintained by incompetent devs (Bugthesda), BACK UP THE STABLE MODDED SETUP.
---
Now, with that preamble out of the way. Obvious questions but it never hurts to just go down the checklist:
1.) Are you trying to get to the correct chest? The one in the room immediately to the right of Shadowheart's prison thing in the prologue nautiloid?
2.) Are you sure the mods are active? With all pre-reqs loaded and for the game version you're playing?
3.) Are you sure the mods don't conflict with each other?
4.) Have you ever modded this game before? And was it long enough ago that the game has been updated since the last time you loaded those mods?
5.) Are you sure the mods actually work? Sometimes things just don't work. Or they get updated and break even though they worked like earlier that day. Computers are weird like that.
Now, hopefully it's just a simple oversight and easily fixable to boot. It happens to all of us at times.
But if not, well... your options are to not use the mods, or nuke your install and start over. This time paying attention to make sure you're following the "best practice" suggestions I listed at the top. Usually, stuff like this only happens if someone skips something or "assumes" they didn't skip something, etc. Again, not judging, just stating a fact. We've all been there.
Wow thank you so much for your detailed response! I only started modding this game when Patch 7 came out and when the Mod Manager was integrated into the game. So I haven't used any mods outside like from Nexus, etc.
Unfortunately, I do get a little to download happy and I install all the mods in bulk that I like and then start the save. I haven't really had any issues before, so I never questioned this mentality, as whenever I added new mods, everything was available to use, including the items put into the tutorial chest. Now, for some reason, only certain mod items are spawning in the tutorial chest. I've opened an old save that had many more items and they are still on my character, but when I use the mod, the toggable tutorial chest, those same items are showing in the chest, so there might be a conflict.
I do not know what really caused this issue, so I think I may have to just wipe all the mods and start over and install a mod at a time to ensure nothing breaks and everything works.
Thank you for your insight!
